M.C. Escher's Birthday Challenge starts in about 18 hours. See here for details.
This is a 5-day challenge on the SR5 project. The fft sizes for the SR5 units vary a bit, but testing last week for me they were as small as 800k up to 960k. That is roughly 6.5 to 7.5 MB per task (so for example, an i7-4790 with 8MB of L3 cache should run 1 unit across all of its cores).
I will be on with good force on this challenge. Come and join me and let's see if we can put AtP back in the top 5!
BTW, for those interested in "renting" the 1-core premium instances from TSC, depending on your location, they will run about $1.10 to $1.35 US dollars each for the full 120 hours and will complete an SR5 unit typically between about 30,000 and 40,000 seconds each.

I will be in .... in fact, already a running start.

Two of my systems had a Win 10 upgrade run a few hours ago.
Be warned for such nuisance during the challenge itself.

Windows routine monthly patch was was Tuesday, so if systems haven't been updated since then, get it out of the way before challenge, or turn on the update "pause".
Today is supposed to be really hot but expected to cool down again tomorrow. So I'll likely delay my start, or only put one small system on to start with.

I am sweating like a small nun at penguin shoot but aim to take part.

We are also getting a cool down the next couple of days, then it will be a real scorcher as we are supposed to get very close to if not over 100F Tue/Wed next week.

I'm in. My good old i7-6700 can not do much, but it is crunching :)

Due to my running start, I had two systems complete their unit less than 60 minutes prior to the official start time and which means the new units which followed will not count. I feel too guilty to cancel them so as to get fresh and timely work.
Anyway, the fight goes on ....

27C indoors and feels like an oven outdoors. I've put active house cooling on for one of the few times a year it is needed, but it makes no sense to add to thermal load until this is over. I might run overnight.
