Hi all!

newbie looking around a bit.
While WCG is on hiatus, I decided to try other boinc projects.
I'm trying to get grabs on what to crunch on which machine.

Why is Multi-threading not recommended on some projects? How bad will things get If I'm using MT on those projects?

Those subprojects are searching for small primes, and don't benefit much from multithreading. Multithreading is most useful on larger prime candidates, where you can use it to allow the tasks you are running to fit in the CPU cache, reducing individual task runtime and increasing overall throughput.

Small tasks will fit in cache when running 1 task/jcore, so using more than 1 thread per task will cause individual tasks to run faster, but decrease overall throughput.

If you have a very large number of threads for a small task, it may actually take longer to run than it would with fewer threadsd.

Thank you for the explanation tng. I'll assign those tasks to computers with fewest cores
