This is the official warning for the sub-project end.
Consider this to be the official 30 day warning, although it's probably closer to 4 months than to 1 month. It all depends on how much people run 17-low, and as we get closer to the end more and more people will pile onto 17-low. I am therefore giving you the warning early.
There's less than a million candidates to go, and we're currently doing about 15K tasks per day (2 tasks per candidate.)

Between six and seven years did it take from the special GFN-17-Mega project was launched until the 17-Low project caught up and closed the "gap". /JeppeSN |

I'm sure there is and I'm just not able to figure it out, but how do I tell how many GNF-17 tasks I personally have done (both 1st and 2nd)? |

There isn't. At least there isn't an easy way. The server stores the *total* number of Genefer tasks you've run, but it doesn't break it down to individual GFN sub-projects. Nor does it record whether you're first or not.
The best you can do is look at the log on your computer that lists every task that was run. On a Windows computer, the log is C:\ProgramData\BOINC\job_log_www.primegrid.com.txt
That will tell you which tasks you've run, but there's no place you can get historical information about whether those tasks were first or not.

I didn't know this existed.
$ grep 'genefer17low' job_log_www.primegrid.com.txt | wc -l

Absolutely fascinating.

Is there any way we could get a weekly update here as to how many tasks are left? I just find this strangely fascinating. Even if its just a rounded approximation? |

Assuming 17-low even makes it to the beginning of the challenge, it will likely run out of work in the rush at the start of the challenge.

I also believe the B stock will run out of tasks around the start of the challenge, and probably before as a lot of people would like to find the largest prime smaller than 1M digits.
But there will be a few days of cleanup, even if all tasks are sent before the start of the challenge. |

And then, there were none.
At UTC time 2022-01-19 09:31:16, there were no tasks left, as seen from the home page.
But the min remaining b is 39,603,760 (995,851 digits long), so there seems to be quite a few tasks pending, and cleanup will take several days. |

Currently there are between 100 and 200 candidates remaining. All of them have one result already; the server is waiting for the wingmen to return their tasks. The project will technically be “open” until the last task is returned, as from time to time one of those remaining tasks may need to be resent to another computer. Mostly, however, there will be no tasks available.
