Challenges - what happens

Hello, I just wondered. How many participants does a challenge normally draw? And does the project focus give an additional benefit computewise?
I myself try to participate in most of these, somehow thinking that perhaps some computerpower will rub off from the big ones onto mine.
Thank you.

I find it focuses my attention on that sub-project for a short but defined period of time. Otherwise I can find myself jumping from project to project without discipline.
It also gets me spending up big on The Science Cloud which is a good thing for the project as there is a ton of computing power available for hire.

Participants range from 300-600, normally it is inversely proportional to the length of challenge project tasks. eg. SGS challenge draws more participants.
The project received a substantial boost in progress as users focus their power on it.
I do have some luck during challenges of getting primes, and it is more the optimization of my computing power that I have for me, since I usually just put BOINC as a set-and-leave application on my computer and pursue my credit goals.

My lucky number is 6219*2^3374198+1

In case it helps, I made this PrimeGrid Challenge Series Summary.

Very impressing results! I had no idea that hundreds of millions points was earned during a single challenge. | |
