Our progress has slowed considerably. We are now showing a 11 June date for reaching n=5M but rest assured that will change. :(
We are currently trudging through many, many aborted WU's from the end of the Challenge. Our daily rate has dropped by half from 1000 WU's/day to about 500.
We'll be updating this thread with the remaining WU's. Also, 321 Search (manual reservation system) may be delivering more WU's. After we reach n=5M, we'll still have WU's remaining as we help clean up some of the unfinished manual reservations.
As of this post, 3158 WU's remain until n=5M.
Thanks again to everyone who continue to help! But please don't forget the next Challenge. I believe we can switch for 24 hours to have another healthy competition. :)

Ditto.
Other than the TPS Challenge, I'll leave everything on 321 + TPS - I don't like having only one project defined in case it runs out of work, and given we are actually trying to finish 321 up to 5M, that will eventually happen (unless you're ready to start handing out 32+1 WUs at that point - I hope so!) |

John,
Are you going to add a seperate project for the 3*2^n+1 on the
preferences . Would be nice to select so that when 3*2^2-1 Finishes we
can start asap.

So does that mean that the +1 and -1 are going to be together in 1 option to run them under the choices for projects? And if so, I take it the -1 will be starting at n=5m but what is the +1 starting at?? Thanks a ton :)

That is the tentative plan. However, we must first catch +1 up to -1 if we want to do that. Currently +1 is at n=638K
BTW, thank you to you and everone else who continue to help PrimeGrid reach n=5M. :)

There's 1 n per WU.

Hello John M
I am doing that at least two times/day on the top on this tread.
If you or anybody else needs more information, just ask and i do what i can.
Thanks to you and all other trying to get 32-1 to a end.
PS: You may notice a time increase on 32-1 now, not on all wu just all new one over n~4800k.
It would be nice if many could attach 32-1 to try dry it out before the Birthday Challenge.
Thank you all and feel free to ask here or PM me or John if you don’t like to write in the forum :)
And the more technical question we know Rytis keep one eye on the forum and fill in what we can't give a direct answer to.

Expiring WU's from the end of the Challenge are weighing heavily on the current progress. While we're doing an incredible rate of around 950 WU's a day, over 1/2 of them are expired WU's from the Challenge.
We had hoped for a better completion rate towards the end of the Challenge, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
The new n=5M date is 14 June 2008. Once we get past all these expiring WU's, we should see a nice jump in daily progress.
Thanks for hanging in there.

UPDATE: We have passed the 1000 WU mark. As of this post, there's only 963 WU's left to n=5M. While the rate has dropped drastically, we continue to make progress. The new n=5M date is th 16th.
We expect the rate to pick up again after today's Challenge. :)

If we keep this same rate, 14 June will be the day!!! :) Check here for live stats of WU's remaning: 321 WU's

What exactly does "Unprepared Tasks" mean?
Unprepared tasks have not yet had a BOINC "workfile" created for it. This allows work to be inserted without adding to the size of the database. On the front page, you'll see the prepared work buffers (sieves don't have a buffer - work inserted goes straight into the database). TPS has a buffer threshold of 1000 WU's while the other LLR projects have a 100 WU threshold.
When the buffer falls below the threshold, work is fetched from the "unprepared tasks" and a “workfile” is created. Therefore, work is created only when needed without unnecessarily increasing the database.

1557 is the number of "work in progress" WU's plus the number unprepared WU's. The countdown has been about sending out the last WU...
Yes, the ultimate goal is to COMPLETE all WU's as well, and we are hoping to do that by the end of June. However, it will be based on how fast we can clean up aborted, expired, and errored WU's. Since there will be no new work during this time, it should go quickly. :)

The last task has been prepared. As soon as the buffer runs dry, all WU's below n=5M will be in progress or already completed.
When you see the buffer on the front page at 0, please add another subproject to your preferences so your computer does not run idle. However, please consider leaving 321 selected as expired, aborted, and errored WU's will continue to come in. Also, we may further help out the manual effort by cleaning up some of their ranges as well.
Although it's taken a little longer to get here...the main thing is that we're finally here! :) Thank you everyone for making this possible.

The buffer has been emptied. Now 321 work will be sporadic as WU's come in expired, aborted, or errored. Please keep 321 checked in your preferences so these can be picked up as soon as they come in.
Also, we'll be receiving some "clean up" work from 321 Manual. These will be inserted as soon as they are received. We'll post when this is done.

I'm getting a reasonable number of 321 tests through, so we should be gradually knocking this on the head - just over 1000 tests to complete according to the Server Status.
How many tests and what n range is covered by the 'clean up'?
And approximately when will 32+1 start ticking? |

I am not sure yet. I think we get about 2 000 -3 000 unfinnished pair.
But this is on a lower n (3M<n<4M) that means they whan't take more then half time compared to the last one (4,9M<n<5M) we do now.

We have recevied the first file from the manual effort.
Number of candidates: 2259
n range: 3.70M-3.74M
We'll probably receive a few more files, but we're not expecting more than another 500 WU's. We will post again when the last are inserted.
Thank you for all your help! :)

The old one was 4.8M-5M
The new one inserted today take 4hr 30 min on my C2Q 2,4Ghz
Compare to the old one 4,8M-5M they did take 9hr 40 min.
This new one is down to less then half time.

So how did we go from 0 WU's on the home page of 321 now to 97 more WU's? And when will we be done now? Thought today was the last day but now it looks like with more added it will be even longer. Care to explain, my good friends?

We have completed most of our work...less than 100 WU's remain from our reserved ranges to n=5M. However, the manual effort had some unfinished ranges that people had reserved. We are helping them clean up those ranges as mentioned in this post.
The first range they sent us had 2259 candidates (WU's). They are from the 3.70M-3.74M n range.
The number on the front page is a buffer. 321 has a buffer of 100 WU's. Work is sent out from this buffer. When it falls below 100, a new workfile is created from the WU queue located here: 321 Range Statistics. As long as there is work in the queue, the buffer will remain around 100. When the queue is empty, the buffer will decline to 0 again.
We are expecting about 500 more WU's from the manual effort. As Lennart has pointed out, these are much faster than the ones we were doing.
Once these are completed, then we'll be done.
I hope this helps clarify things.

The final WU's have been uploaded. 707 WU's in total. A bit more than the 500 we were expecting. However, the queue is already down to 401 as of this post. At that rate, we should be empty by tonight. :)
The WU's are in the 3.51M<n<3.53M range so they should be the quickest we've done.
Thanks again to everyone participating in this clean up. Your help is greatly appreciated.

We're starting testing of 32+1 work (we were running -1 previously), the queue will be kept low until we're sure it's running fine.
[edit] Strike that, I'm making it run on the standard queue size.

It's the LLR app. It does different tests for +1 and -1, and +1 only has progress reporting in Windows build.

oh - i got progress reporting using manual LLR on linux for 3*2^n+1 and for the +1 primesearch - though not for SG...
I guess the settings in llr.ini for OutputIterations is set higher than these WU's actually run for... |
|
|
|
Did you get the progress reported in the console (via standard output)? Because that is of no use for the wrapper. The other LLR versions write their progress into an extra file and that file is read by the wrapper application for reporting the current progress.
(By the way, it *could* be possible to change the wrapper to read the standard output of the LLR application and therefore get progress reporting working even with that linux version of LLR - if it reports its status that way. But it might get tricky.)

Having swopped from Windoze to 64 bit linux I find that my machine grinds away at LLR3*2^n+1 task quite happily. The estimated processing time is about 40mins. However no progress ever seems to be made and the task is never completed.
Is there anything I can do about this?
Thanks

One thing to note: Linux will not have progress reporting, it's a known bug.

As Vato pointed out, all WU's are COMPLETE for 32-1 n<5M.
Congratulations to everyone on a great achievement!!!

Thanks Lennart. The other tasks seem to give progress reports on Linux by the way.
... and also thanks to someone for the neat avatar thingy. Must get round to a proper one soon.
I quite fancy one of a bulldog roughing up a pug...
Cheers!

according to the range statistics, we're out of 321 for n = 1M-2M, with no unprepared tasks and 15077 out of 20689 WUs returned.
is that really the case? it seems a little fast to me :-)
front page shows >8k 321 WUs in the queue, which is a little higher than usual and higher than the number of tasks outstanding in the range statistics.
so what's going on, and when do we need 2M-3M loading up? :-)

Range stats show unique workunits. Each unique WU gets at least 2 results, that's why front page shows more available than range stats.
The increased number in the queue is because of the DB issue we had this morning.
