It also seems to think one of my tasks has been "abandoned" whatever that is despite the fact it's running.
Do I need to disconnect the host with the abandoned task and reconnect it?

Assuming it didn't magically sort itself out just now, thanks to whoever did the sorting.

Each host has an auto-generated unique identifier, based on hash of host's MAC address and data directory (the latter is usually same for common setups, so only MAC address matters). These systems had same identifier. It may happens if:
1. You copied Boinc data directory to another system. It will not cause much harm except for possible "abandoned" tasks - when software detects a collision for a first time, it'll reset everything and generate correct identifier for new host. It will fix itself.
2. You are running virtual machine(s) - they have virtual network adapters with virtual MAC addresses. If, by some reason, two VMs have same virtual MAC address - Boinc will not work normally! Two hosts will be always out of sync.
There are also other scenarios possible, for example, when a host MAC address (especially virtual one) is changed - it may work for a long time using old cached identifier, but suddenly reset after some network error/timeout when host and server became out of sync.

Are you the same person who copied his folder and talked about it on Einstein? Next time try to set all Projects to No New Tasks and then either run them down or abort them before you copy it and Boinc will sort out the rest.

no, not me.
I started up 2 completely new instances on aws. SSH'd into the first, setup boinc, connected to boinc, got some tasks. Disconnected from the first instance, and repeated the process on the second.
No copying involved.
