Following the old saying 'misery loves company' this thread is a place for crunchers to share their bad luck stories, i.e. large number of tasks in a subproject without a hit.

Number of tasks should exceed 2*(server-average+10%)
[Server-average = Subproject status -> Completed/Primes]
[+10% is to compensate for increasing number size]

My bad luck subproject is GFN-15:
I am at approximately 40.000 tasks without a hit, which is almost five times the server average (7685*1.1=8454).

Another method is to compute the gap for b = 170M and the expected number of primes is one in [170M; 170M + 107000].
The number of candidates in that range is
#candidates = e^-gamma * C_n * gap / log(p_max)
= 0.5614595 * 5.80266 * 107000 / log(26000e15) ~= 7800.
Your estimate coincides but there are two tasks per candidate (one workunit) then the number of tasks is 15600.
You are unlucky but not so much.

My bad luck subproject is GFN-15

I had a streak of about 30k tasks without a GFN-15 once and it took me about 35k tasks to find my first GFN-16, which was a double check because my computer disconnected from the internet for seemingly no reason in the 3 minute time frame the task was being processed and I couldn't fix it, since I was out.

Your estimate coincides but there are two tasks per candidate (one workunit) then the number of tasks is 15600.

Yes, I agree. The 1 in 7685 tasks rate would only apply, if you'd check 100% first.

50.000 (yup, fifty-thousand) GFN-15 tasks and still... nada, niente, nichts, nothing!
Thank you PG-server for allowing me to reach this record of unluckiness.

Crunchi, I believe there's a grammar error there:
you meant that he/she won't get any primes, but you said that he'll "not find nothing", which mean he'll find something.
Grammar, grammar, grammar, ugh
For me, a Spanish learner, grammar is even more confusing.

I believe in this case they were using the double negative as an insight to how the project is. There is no special way to run it to get a prime and mentally arguing with your computer and the project (come on people we all do it to some degree), will give us nothing more than we already get. So, Crunchi put it in fairly accurate words, because it is not going to make a difference, either way.
