Hi, this is more of a feedback/observation but just thought to pass it on.

I have 2x nVidia GTX980 GPU's and am using the TThrottle app from EfMer.

GPU Throttle Temperature limit is set to 65 deg C for both my GPUs.

When for instance I run 2 x GFN 22 tasks or GFN Extreme then the throttle setting applied is 99% which I believe to mean there is very little actual processing being done.

With just one of these tasks running (GPU 1) the Throttle is at 50% so I would only run one at a time and leave the GPU 0 free.

The MSI Afterburner Fan speed profile is 80% for 65 deg and 100% for 70 deg.

You may think 65 deg C is a low value and maybe it is but having destroyed GPU's before due to high temps I want to preserve the hardware I am making available to run Primegrid tasks.

In my preferences GFN 17 Mega and above are deselected for this reason.

I don't imagine much can be done to affect how these larger tasks interact with a GPU so I will leave these tasks to those with more capable systems.

I continue to support Primegrid and am still crunching GFN 17 Low and lesser :)

I briefly read how tthrottle works. Why not use afterburner's built in max temp power limit throttling? Controlling power limit seems to be a much better way to regulate gpu temps than controlling the gpu's cpu worker thread.

When I was using TThrottle for GPU temp control, I found that it didn't work well or at all on the higher GFN's as it couldn't limit the CPU worker enough to keep the temps down. I found MSI Afterburners controls worked much better.

I delinked the power limit and temp limits, limited the temp, set priority to temp limit and it worked perfectly. My experience with this is on a GTX 770. Doesn't work for my GTX650 (too old) and 1660 (the newer ones Afterburner can't temp limit for some reason).

Edit to add: TThrottle takes a bit of time to pick up a task. 10-30 seconds before it starts to limit it. Even on GPU tasks that throttle well with it, there is a further lag as the GPU completes the work already sent to it. This will limit its effectiveness for short running tasks like GFN15/16.

Are you using the latest version of AfterBurner? I'm using ver 4.6.2 on all of my Windows pc's and just checked and my Nvidia 760's have the power and temp limits linked, earlier versions did not have that link on my older cards either. I do not know how to delink them though as you said you do.

I use it more to monitor the temps for the different Projects and do crank up the fan if the temp rises more than I want it too.

The little link icon - press it and it should de-link them. The icon itself between temp and power limit is a button.
