Starts September 21 at 11:00 UTC.
All rats are encouraged to attend! Here's a thread to use for discussion.

I'm glad you said something. I know the date/time is posted in the thread(s) but the name had me thinking it was in October. Sheesh... anyway, it's still hot hot hot here so I am not sure I am going to be able to contribute that much but I will be in with what I can.
Umm isn't this for AP27?
|
|
Yes, AP27.
I'll have my screaming-fast GPU on it and will contribute some CPU work but that won't be much.

I'm looking forward to it!
Any advice on multi-threading for AP27?
I probably want to throw quite a few cores at each work unit - like 7 or 8? Or more?
I am wary that AP27 takes a long time on the CPU so I don't want to have a heap of work units half finished at the end.

The CPU app doesn't support multi-threading, so that decision is really simple. :)
But do throw every GPU you've got at it.

Thanks Michael. Yes that is a very easy decision.
Feeling slightly stupid as I now remember multi-threading is for LLR.
Will throw every GPU at it which is 2 at the start and I get a 3rd half way through the challenge.

I will be out of town, but I fired up all gpus in ap mode before I left. If possible I will remotely switch some cpu work on as well just for fun. Good luck team!

All things going to plan, I think I'll crack ten million on the challenge. I can't wait - it's 2.5 days away. Then I might leave AP27 running for a few more days to get a nice blue badge - before going back to my search for a GFN 17 mega.
|
|
I've got 3 of my 4 GPUs running on it now, hoping to break into Jade during the challenge. The 4th GPU i'm having issue with app_info and after having to recover the settings (and files there) after screwing it up, I'm just gonna leave it on GFN 18.

It has been a long time! Still running primegrid I see?
How are you doing?
I am back since a week or two and am trying to get some of the Cows back to primegrid for the coming challenge.
I dont think we will be able to match the power we used to have but it will be better than the 36th place we are standing now overall. That is really embarrasing.
Cheers and see you at the challenge.
Arjan
Look what I got in the mail today. It appears the Cows will make a return of sorts and maybe we can strike up our friendly challenge banter again.

I noticed that I'd mistakenly entered the start time for this Oktoberfest AP27 Challenge as 11:00 PM, not 11:00 AM UTC. I've fixed the entry in the Challenge Calendar.

I'm glad you did. I thought this one started at 18:00 -- so I would have been 7 hour late.
I've already got the GPU running AP27, but, um, I'm the one who starts the stuff running on the server. Oops!

Well now that would've been rather fun to watch as the thread filled up with "I can't see any results"
|
|
Will be out traveling for most of the challenge so good luck all ! I'm probably not going to help much either :(

Setting up for a rolling start now. Intend to include Pascal/Turing cards only to start with. If my house doesn't melt, I might try some Maxwell or AMD cards.

Everyone running ok? I've already had to cut back to get temps down, and also set a power limit.

I had to cut CPU work on one PC because the temps went up to the mid 80s. Also had problems right at the start and had to reset BOINC on 2 PCs.
|
|
I have cut back to 50% cpu because I was running very hot. Ambient temperature is quite warm here; bring on December!

Hmm... I'm dangerously close to dropping out of the top 100. With 3/4 of a day left by the time I get home from work, I think I'm going to put the foot down and endure the heat for a sprint to finish.

As a team we're a bit down on this one, guess we're not as GPU focused?
Managed to hold personal top 100 so not bad, not great. I should do a lot better on the next one, heat allowing as always.
Actually, that will be interesting. October is folding month on another forum I frequent and I will take part to some degree. Doing two challenges at once might get rather toasty.
|
|
Back from my travels and congrats to all the ratties that ran. It does look like some of the teams have lots of really fast gpu's.
Cheers | |
|
|
Not a bad showing against much larger teams.
I'm sticking on AP27 for a bit before I turn my attention back to the really huge prime searches.

With the AP27 discovered and this project's goal achieved, we are considering the future of the AP27 project. One possibility is that it may shut down.
That discussion is in this forum thread.
