It's been a long time since I posted any PG development related news, so I thought I'd update you on the progress.

First of all, jmblazek has been officially given keys to the server, so now he can help with keeping the work flowing - two pairs of eyes are better than one. He is still learning the things about the system, but he has already inserted 100,000 workunits (50,000 accidentally, but eh, we would have needed them sooner or later ;)). So, welcome aboard, John!

Also, Nicolas (or povaddict, it doesn't matter how you call him) has started work on the screensaver. While I initially thought that we'd buy a closed source development library (Truevision3d), I reconsidered and instead offered Nicolas the money that was meant to go for the library purchase. Instead, Nicolas is creating a cross-platform screensaver (Truevision3d-based screensaver would have only worked under Windows). This is a lot more work, but I think it's a fair investment. Note to donators who donated for the screensaver development: please PM me if you think otherwise.

In the end of the post I've attached a screenshot of a screensaver, taken a few days ago. While it doesn't seem nice graphically yet, it does a lot of stuff under the hood, and the most important thing is that this one runs on Mac (which is an irony, as we don't have Mac version... yet?).

So, what am I doing myself? It might seem like I'm doing nothing. Technically, I'm not doing anything new. But I'm keeping the project in the running state, which still is a significant amount of work (like two days ago, when we had big issues with the database). And behind the scenes we're working with John to bring even more participants and projects into PG. As a secret I can tell you, If you live in the US, get 2008 May issue of Science Illustrated once it's published ;).

My studies have resumed, so I have less time again. And I also work with my new car a little, fixing this and that, like the windscreen wipers that some idiot decided to rip off my car and break. Oh, anyone got cheap 15" wheels for sale? :)
