Australia, my home country, is in the World Cup.
Do we have Challenge competitors from any of the other countries represented?
I am especially looking forward to the matches this year, as I am able to watch all the 64 games live on my internet streamed TV service. Not that I'd have time to watch them all. |

I am from Denmark. Australia and Denmark are both in group C as you probably know. /JeppeSN |

We are hoping for a good result against France (draw would be OK, but a win would be fabulous)
As an ex-pat englishman I'm also interested in how England go - will they have their usual awful play and not get out of the group rounds

Australia ? Do they then have a good team or are they going to play rugby-football in order to win ? |

Hi, I'm new to PrimeGrid. I'm just basically using my 2017 MacBook pro for BoINC.
From Vancouver, Canada and like my fellow countrymen I will be enjoying the world cup from my comfy couch and chair. Go Sports!

I am watching it too, Roger. Looking forward to seeing the "big" ones. But, all games should be interesting since almost all the countries have players playing on the famous teams of Europe. |

Russia 5 Saudi Arabia 0
What a good start to the Tournament. Russia played well, and Saudis outclassed. Makes you wonder how the Aussies will fair against France & Denmark. But everyone likes goals. :-) |

I'm going for 1 - 1 France vs Australia, then the Aussies and France to win the other 2 games and both get through to the sudden death rounds

You don't want any spoilers?
I don't want to read anything about soccer.
I'm just not interested in it.
I am interested in Primes though. ^^
We could make a pure football/soccer thread during FIFA 2018 in the forum General discussion? /JeppeSN |

Spain played well yesterday. Set the bar for the tournament. Suggests France are going to have to come out firing tonight if they're true contenders. I'm fearful for the Ozzies. Hopefully they will keep it tight. We've got some speed, but lack the class and the finishing. Be interesting to see how well Brazil and Germany play now as well. The Europeans look a cut above the rest so far... (suggests how low grade the Asia comp is...) and the Africans lack the discipline, and Uruguay showed that the South Americans lack structure & planning (woeful against Egypt, who played well)...

The Portugal vs. Spain was a great game with many goals. Ronaldo, what a player. But I still liked Pele and Puskas better vs. their contemporaries. Of course, Ronaldo has the best moves.
Australia is so far even with France, but I taped it early this morning and enjoying it now. |

I just had to hide a couple of posts, and I'd prefer not to hide any more.
Just a reminder that politics, political views, and political humor is completely forbidden on the forums. Politics and polite discussion mix like monomethylhydrazine and dinitrogen tetroxide. (I'll save you the Google search -- that's a common bi-propellent hypergolic rocket fuel. it combusts on contact, and is exceptionally toxic.)

I'm curious about the german team: win or defeat against Mexico - later the day we will know, if there is tacos or bratwurst for dinner

Worldwide, I guess the Mexican cuisine is more famous than the German one. Maybe for that reason the Mexicans surprised and took the victory. For once the Europeans did not win or have luck (yesterday, my team Denmark was quite lucky with the win against Peru).

Australia v France game was disappointing. Australia played well. France lacked cohesion and structure. Maybe they didn't take Australia seriously (they had some young players?).
Apparently Messi missed a penalty for Argentina. Probably too much pressure because of Ronaldo's performance for Portugal. He'll get player of tournament just on that game!!
Dodgy starts by the four favorites, France, brazil, Germany and Spain. Only Spain showed class worthy of winning so far. Early days... Aussies lucky to play Denmark next as the Danes will want to rest players for France game (maybe complacent), and Peru need to win now at all costs. Hopefully France beats them and then against Australia in game 3 they don't show up. Australia just needs a draw to stay in contention. Aussies were very defensive against the French (probably why I felt the game was a bit boring). Apparently the new coach prefers defense to attack (unlike Ange). Eg, against France they had 5 defenders and Mooy was playing a defensive midfield position. So, 6 in the back line... Mooy plays well. Leckie has to be careful not to yellow card in next game too (he's also one of our best players). :-) |

Yeah, English language Wikipedia Group F article says: The incumbent World Champions, Germany, placed last, making it the first time since 1938 that the Germans did not advance beyond the first round. The early German exit was "greeted with shock in newspapers around the world". /JeppeSN |
