Is it possible to manually resume if the CMD line closes or is stopped?

Also, how do I change the B value after I've already started? Does that erase previous work?

Yes. Just run the same command in the same directory. The sieve should pick up where it left off.

For example, I have a directory from which I run manual sieving. I'm currently running a GFN21 range, in two parts. I have this batch file in that directory:

start "Sieve A" gfnsvocl_w64_2G.exe 21 176750 176820 B%1 start "Sieve B" gfnsvocl_w64_2G.exe 21 176820 176890 B%1

I invoke it with:

go 8

(The 8 is the B parameter, which is used to tune speed vs. screen lag.)

This creates two CMD windows, each running the appropriate sieve portion. At any time I can stop those two sieves with CTRL-C. Entering "go 8" again in the original CMD window restarts both sieves where they left off.

It's not necessary to use a batch file to start the sieves, but I find it's convenient to do it this way.

Just stop the sieve(s) and restart with a different B value. That's one of the main reasons I use that batch file. It lets me easily experiment with different B settings.

EDIT: No work is lost when you stop and restart.

How do I know that a sieve has successfully completed and wasn't shut down by a power loss? Restart the sieve just to be sure?

My home computers don't stop at the log in screen on boot-up so unless I check the reliability history there's no indication that anything happened.

You could do that. A completed sieve (assuming the checkpoint file still exists) will exit immediately with a message that the range had already been completed. Alternatively you could open the factor file in a text editor and see if stops where it's supposed to. All uploaded factor files are tested to make sure they end at the right place, so even if you don't catch it, I will.
