I would like to participate in the Happy St Patrick's Equinox Challenge so I installed prp-net on a Debian 8 Jessie server but it is command line only there is no gui.

When I ran sh 8-oct-start-prpclient.sh I got this error

I installed xterm and added a file called .Xresources but it still did not work and got this error:

Is there a command line version of the code in 8-oct-start-prpclient.sh that will work without xterm ?/

I deleted everything and tried another server. I have created a user called prp and I have downloaded all the files OK to a folder under /home/prp

prp@dingo7:~/prp-net/prpclient-5.4.0a-linux_64$ ls
12-dodeca-install-prpclient.sh
12-dodeca-start-prpclient.sh

8-oct-update-prpclient-ini.sh
master_prpclient.ini
programs
prpnet_servers.txt
readme_primegrid.txt
stop-prpclient.sh

I have modified the master_prpclient.ini but when I try and run "sudo sh 8-oct-start-prpclient.sh" it creates a directory called "prpclient-{1..8}" with just one lot of executables instead of the eight folders with the executables.

prpnet_servers.txt
readme_primegrid.txt
stop-prpclient.sh

prp@dingo7:~/prp-net/prpclient-5.4.0a-linux_64$ cd "prpclient-{1..8}
> ^C
prp@dingo7:~/prp-net/prpclient-5.4.0a-linux_64$ cd "prpclient-{1..8}"
prp@dingo7:~/prp-net/prpclient-5.4.0a-linux_64/prpclient-{1..8}$ ls
llr prpclient readme_pfgw.txt readme_wwww.txt wwww wwww.ini
pfgw64 readme_llr.txt readme_prpclient.txt startx.sh wwwwcl

I am not going any further as I have spent a lot of time today trying to get this to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

then I did the same with 8-oct-update-prpclient-ini.sh

[code]
prp@dingo7:~/prp-net/prpclient-5.4.0a-linux_64$ for i in {1..8}
> do
> sed s/INSTANCE_ID/$i/ ./master_prpclient.ini > prpclient.ini
> mv ./prpclient.ini ./prpclient-$i/
> done

BUT when I tried to start the prp instances I got the XTERM error.

I have spend hours on this on Windows it is so easy.

EDIT: Not sure this helps but if I go to the folder prpclient-1 and run ./prpclient it starts it up in the window but need to leave the window open.

But what terminal emulator does your system have? Maybe you can change xterm into gnome-terminal or whatever is relevant, inside 8-oct-start-prpclient.sh and so on. /JeppeSN

I had the same problem, xterm was not installed as default in Jessie. I installed it separately.
https://www.howtoinstall.co/en/debian/jessie/xterm

I have PRPNet running at Debian (Jessie) in this client.

I could not get xterm to work after installing it. I kept getting the same error.

I finally had to go into each of the eight folders and start ./prpclient manually and it seems to be working OK.

I have it running on two Debian Jessie 64 bit servers now.

I believe that {1..8} is a bashism. Are you using bash?

For instance

[bash]$ for i in {1..8}; do echo $i; done
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8
[bash]$ which sh
/bin/sh
[bash]$ sh
$ for i in {1..8}; do echo $i; done
{1..8}
$
