BOINC Challenges are on hold for the moment, so it's a good time to plan for PRPNet Challenges.
GCW will move to BOINC soon. C109 is the current range being tested in PRPNet. C109 has just been sieved to 66T in BOINC, however it was previously only manually sieved (500K <= n < 1M) to 30T. So GCW is not a good choice for a PRPNet Challenge.
WFS and WSS don't have working checksum support. Any work we do on these may have to be redone (my opinion only). I am waiting for Mark to have a look at this and post a new version on his web page:
http://www.mersenneforum.org/rogue/rogue.html
So that leaves us with 121, 27, FPS and PRS.
I suggest the following initial plan:
1) middle of March - 121
2) middle of April - Primorial
3) end of May - 27
4) start of September - Factorial
Any suggestions welcome.

Suggested themes for March 121 Challenge
http://www.wincalendar.com/Holiday-Calendar/March-2017
St Patrick's Day, 17th March
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Day_of_Happiness
The International Day of Happiness (known as Happiness Day) is celebrated throughout the world on the 20th of March.
http://www.seasky.org/astronomy/astronomy-calendar-current.html
March 20 - March Equinox. The March equinox occurs at 10:29 UTC. The Sun will shine directly on the equator and there will be nearly equal amounts of day and night throughout the world. This is also the first day of spring (vernal equinox) in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of fall (autumnal equinox) in the Southern Hemisphere.
Maybe the Happy St Patrick's Equinox Challenge!
A 5 day Challenge on the 121 Project starting on the 16th March. |

( Don't forget March 30, the Bunsen Burner Day.
Or March 20, the World Sparrow Day.
Plenty to choose from.
There is even a "Alien Abduction Day" these days (March 20, like the sparrows). Not sure how that one is celebrated though.

As usual the (northern) vernal equinox is also the Nowruz, the Persian new year, celebrated in a lot of places in Central Asia. With the year numbers currently used in Iran (Solar Hijri year), it will become year 1396 (four times a prime). /JeppeSN |

Next challenge is:
16-21 March - 121 "Happy St Patrick's Equinox Challenge"
I suggest we start at 12:00 UTC and end at 12:00 UTC.
Thanks for the suggestions. If someone seconded might have gone with one of those. |

I created a March challenge thread:
http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=7343
We can do more challenges than the initial list, if it makes sense to do so.
I've confirmed that the new LLR version 3.8.20 works with PRPNet version 5.4.0.
Can't see any way to pass command line arguments to LLR though.
Mark thinks PRPNet could be modified to allow multithreading.

I say Star Wars day as the start of the challenge. The 15 day PSP challenge is plenty enough for this month, so May would be a good place to start.

A "May The Fourth" challenge would be great.

27 is 3³, a prime raised to itself.
Will there be one more May challenge this year, on the 27 subproject, possibly starting at May 27?

Gary made a suggestion of a Cube challenge in honor of "27":

Do we want 7, 5 or 3 days? |

It's time for one of my favorite sub-projects, a Factorial challenge.
We're coming up to a big n=250k Milestone.
Ideas for challenge themes:
• September 22 - September Equinox. The September equinox occurs at 20:02 UTC. The Sun will shine directly on the equator and there will be nearly equal amounts of day and night throughout the world. This is also the first day of fall (autumnal equinox) in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of spring (vernal equinox) in the Southern Hemisphere.
• Number Theory Methods in Cryptology - September 11-13, 2017 http://duch.mimuw.edu.pl/~nutmic/
• Fun Factorials Challenge
Let me know what you think.
Any ideas you have are most welcome. |

In preparation for the server move, all PRPNet ports have been set to "No new work". Further challenges won't be possible until after after PRPNet is migrated. Since we have not yet been able to get PRPNet working on the current version of Linux (or the version before that, or the version before that), it's unknown when (or even if) PRPNet will be coming back.
There will therefore be at least a short break in PRPNet challenges until this gets sorted out.
