I have had a number of WUs of this type pending verification drop off the pending list. I'm losing credit towards my next badge level. At one time I had 200,000 more pending credits than was needed for my next badge. Now, I'm 20,000 less than I need for the next badge. Total for project hasn't moved for months.

Your computer is malfunctioning: http://www.primegrid.com/results.php?hostid=163971 You have returned 6 invalid tasks (incorrect results) and 7 inconclusive which I expect to be invalid too. Fix you hardware first. Check CPU temperature, fan condition/dust in airflow, remove overclock if exist, run memory test. Also I recommend that before running big projects like SoB you should try some smaller tasks first to be sure that no invalid results were returned (and your hardware is working without errors).

Early Skylake systems were flawed. The good news is there was a BIOS fix for the problem. You may want to check to see if there's an updated BIOS for your motherboard.

This might or might not be the problem with this computer, but if it is, then these are the symptoms you would see.

The Skylake bug that was found using Prime95 required either disabling certain instructions that would normally be used, and/or an older version of Prime95, and was only demonstrated on a specific FFT size. It is extremely unlikely to be the cause of problems. It is more likely either overheating CPU, unstable overclocked CPU, or similar with ram interface especially at higher speeds.

Still, doesn't hurt to keep an eye on BIOS updates as they often improve (high performance) ram compatibility also.

You're mistaken and are confusing two separate problems. This BIOS issue has caused numerous problems with bad results on tasks here at PrimeGrid.

I think he was talking more about early bios and RAM instabilities... at any rate, though, a BIOS update is advised.

As said, the P95 Skylake bug is one thing, but this "problem" that we are referring to is something else; in fact, it was even something that came even earlier. It had more to do with early Bios not knowing how to deal with the RAM rather than a bug with the chips themselves.

I'm not sure it is just limited to early bios, the current bios rev for one of my Z170 Asrocks will generate a huge number of error units if I let it use XMP and don't set the timings manually.

Michael, et. al.
Thank you for the feedback. My system is watercooled and running under 70C for all cores. No overclocking. I suspect that the motherboard does indeed need a BIOS update (ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger). I will look into that immediately before running those tasks again.

Thanks again everyone for the feedback.

These forums. It was all over when Skylakes first came out. Sorry, but I'm not going to go digging for specific forum posts. There's lots of discussion about this a year or so ago if you want to look.

About a year ago was the Skylake bug. From your description, if it is just general instability with fast ram, would be longer ago. IMO it could still ongoing as fast modules (3000+) and mobo compatibility is still hit or miss. I only wanted to check I didn't miss some other well defined problem as opposed to essentially OC ram problems.

70C sounds on the warm side for water but not worrying to me. If the Ranger is anything like my Hero, they were releasing on average about a BIOS update a month or thereabouts, and certainly there were ram stability improvements throughout those. Mine also defaulted to enhanced turbo of whatever they call it, which is essentially a slight overclock (all cores 4.2 GHz vs. Intel's 4.0 rated all core speed). They offset it with more voltage, but it can contribute to higher running temperatures.

Yes, it was the ram stability issue with high speed (overclocked) memory.
