Wall-Sun-Sun "World Maths Day" - 02-09 March 2016
Announced is a challenge at the Wall-Sun-Sun prime search project from the 2nd till 9th of March.
We will start at 12:00 UTC and crunch till 12:00 UTC one week later.
World Maths Day is an online international mathematics competition. The first World Maths Day was held on March 14, 2007 (Pi Day), and has been held on the 1st Wednesday in March in subsequent years. In 2010, World Maths Day created a Guinness World Record for the Largest Online Maths Competition.
Zhi-Wei Sun notes PrimeGrid's search efforts with great interest. His opinion is that the first WSS prime would be found by Primegrid: I encourage you and those working with the PrimeGrid project to continue your search for WSS primes. It is interesting to see who will be the lucky one to find the first WSS prime.
We're currently at 16.72e16. The twenty day October 2015 WSS challenge saw 2,151,540 WUs completed. Based on this rate we should complete 753,039 WUs in seven days taking the leading edge to 17.4e16.
More about the Wall-Sun-Sun prime search can be found here. News and infos about the PRPNet client can be found here.
To take part, you have to activate the following lines in prpclient.ini:
server=WALLSUNSUN:100:10:prpnet.primegrid.com:13001 The "10" here downloads 10 WUs at a time.
Stats will be available at the well known place here.
All previous PRPNet challenge stats can be found here.
Good luck!

Ahh, about halfway started so far...the stupid AMD driver issue has cropped up again (thanks Windows for the auto updates), so those machines will get a late start tonight as I clean and reinstall old versions. This leads me to wonder: the wwwwcl version is about 4 years old. Is there something in the code that's been deprecated by AMD in the last year? Are newer versions available for us to use?

It blew up on amd cards on both osx and windows for me.

No idea to the first part, but no there are no newer versions at the moment. I don't believe Mark R is actively working on this any more.

Poo. Well, hopefully someone with the right skills will take it up again, I fear the day is coming that GPU-wise it becomes an Nvidia-only project (and on Mac with the closed driver ecosystem, it may already have).

Need a app_info for a R9 380x. Anybody want to help?
If you are referring to the WSS challenge currently running, this is not like the genefer jobs on Prime Grid and there isn't an app_info.xml for this.
Make sure you have downloaded and installed the necessary PRPNet files to run. These are found at http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=1215.
Then setup the working folder/dir for prpclient and update the prpclient.ini file found in your running directory as noted below
o take part, you have to activate the following lines in prpclient.ini:
server=WALLSUNSUN:100:10:prpnet.primegrid.com:13001
The "10" here downloads 10 WUs at a time.
You may also need to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update found at
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=26999
Then you can either manually start a command screen or use one of the configured batch files to start and run.
Note: my experience is for Windows only so if you are running Linux or Mac these instructions will be much different.
Cheer Rick
edit: also in this thread I see with there are possible issues with AMD and MAC's or maybe I'm just blind.

Don't forget the wwww.ini file for WSS. It can make a big difference in thruput.

I'm not sure you will have any luck on the 380. Wwwcl and wwwcl64 immediately blow up on my 290x on windows.
Otherwise perfectly (primegrid) functional amd cards on a mac that I have tried crash as well, although nvidia cards seem to do fine.

Since a 380 is a 285, try driver 14.12. It's what I'm using on my Win7 system with my 2 7950s. It's also the latest driver I've found success with. If it's a Win 10 computer you may be SOL, I used to be able to use 15.6.1 beta, but now that one throws errors and corruption after about 5 tasks (and a completely unusable computer in the meantime, despite ini settings).

Anyone seen this before:
Sieve started: (cmdline) 175095330000000000 <= p < 175095340000000000
Fatal Error: Not prime: p = 175095330869998741 c10 = 10874 c11 = -13710. The code must have a bug.

The following near-finds were made:
169380081562526711 (0 +483 p)
173546937983410913 (0 +725 p)
173623178307469999 (0 +216 p)
As one can see, modulo 5, these primes are +1, -2, and -1, respectively.
The nearest one has |A|/p = 216/173623178307469999 = 1.24e-15.
I verified all three with the PARI/GP function I described elsewhere.

Challenge Stats are final. Congratulation to zunewantan and Aggie_The_Pew!
The top of the challenge rankings is as follows:
top users
1 zunewantan 194,564,000
2 Van_Zimmerman 98,797,000
3 Grebuloner 83,206,000
4 brinktastee 61,919,000
5 1998golfer 61,900,000
top teams
1 Aggie_The_Pew 466,540,000
2 The_Knights_Who_Say_Ni! 83,206,000
3 SETI.Germany 66,754,000
4 PrimeSearchTeam 20,968,000
5 Duke_University 8,906,000
Collectively we've done 749,138 WUs, had 39 competitors from 17 Teams and advanced the Wall Sun Sun leading edge past 17.5e16. We also had 3 near-finds during the challenge:
- Van_Zimmerman
- Michael_Becker
- Dave
Nearest of the near finds was 173623178307469999 (0 +216 p) found by Dave, well done!
Given the limit of the Wall-Sun-Sun application appears to be 2^62, i.e. max is 461.17e16, there are 443,593,845 WUs remaining.
At the rate we did this challenge (107,019 WUs per day) we would reach the limit of the application in 11.35 years, (592 week long challenges).
Remember to make a suggestion at the 2016 PRPNet Challenges - Discussion and Dates thread.
Congratulations to everyone who participated!
