Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the (number) extensions mean in the "name"column of the Boinc manager? For instance llr_xxxxxxx_0 or _2 , _6 etc.

Thanks in advance

The last two characters, for example "_0", indicates the ordinality of each task within the workunit. The first task is _0, the second is _1, the third is _2, and so on.

Besides that, there's no specific formula that task names need to follow, and each project does it differently. Indeed, different sub-projects within a single project can have different naming conventions.

Usually the name includes the type of task (say, llrPPS) and some identifying information. Often the identifying information is an index into a database table that stores information about the work being processed, and is therefore meaningless to users.

As Michael said it's the "ordinality" of the workunits, meaning the fist unit sent out ends in a _0, the 2nd task sent out ends in _1, the 3rd task sent out ends in _2 etc, etc. This has to do with whether a task is being resent to other users because the first user had problems with the workunit or for whatever other reason, timed out etc etc. So for example a workunit with the last digits being a _7 would mean it's the 8th time that particular workunit is being sent out to get crunched.

You can see when looking at a workunit that most units are only sent out one time:

minimum quorum 1
initial replication 1
max # of error/total/success tasks 15, 15, 5

But they can be sent out as many as 15 times if needed before the project itself steps in and tries to figure out what's wrong with the task.

A minimum quorum of 1 is only possible on the PPS, PPSE and SGS subprojects. On every other subproject the minimum quorum is 2. Any candidate returned as prime on a quorum 1 increases the quorum to 2 (and a 2nd task is sent out).
