Hello!
I've started doing the Cullen/Woodall prime search. I expected maximum of 100 hours per task but it turns out that my processor will spend at least 240 hours for one task(4 tasks running - 4 core processor).
I know that on the website it's written "Deadline: 14 days (up to 56 days)"
What does it mean? That I can go pass the 14 days deadline(up to 56 days) and I will get the credit or will my tasks get deleted and the next deadline will be bigger by few days?
I just don't understand that "up to 56 days". I'm scarred that 240 hours of my CPU work will perish because it ill require 300 hours or something and that's over the deadline. |

First of all, PrimeGrid is unlike some other projects in that we have always permitted computers to return late tasks and still get credit, providing, of course, that the result is correct.
PrimeGrid is unlike ALL other projects (I think) in that we have a system that automatically extends the deadline as long as your computer is actually working on the task and communicating this to the server (which it should do once per day.)
Please read this thread for more details.

Wow OK Thank you!
I ill hit Update from time to time now :)
I was scared I will need to ditch the Cullen/Woodall because of the very long time and 14 days deadline, but if it works like that then I'll stick around.
Again, Much Thank you <3 |

No need to hit update. It will not really help the trickle program anyway. It's automatically set to trickle at a specific interval. If it misses a trickle (because you are currently not crunching for whatever reason), it will catch a trickle the next time it checks if one was made.
Let the program do it's thing is the easiest way for it to work correctly.

Yes, it's totally unnecessary to hit update. That does not cause more trickles to happen. And even it it did, more trickles don't really change anything. One trickle per day is enough.

Ok I can confirm this that my deadline has been extended.
Boinc requested a "trickle", I allowed my computer to use the internet, and the deadline is now longer (checked on primegrid.com -> Your account -> Tasks)
I can make it as [solved].
If anyone can suggest a good topic so that people with similar problem will find this, then I'm up to change it.
Happy computing! |

That's all good to know, I've just got one work unit which is 533hrs estimated time, and is due by the 26/10/2016 (today is the 12th). This means that my computer which turns 24/7 will not finish the job until about the 3/11/2013 i.e. 8 days late! Oups. I'll touch nothing and hope for the best. |

That's not fair! When I went back to boinc manager the estimated time had changed to 695hrs! But no change in the deadline. :( Hope this work unit goes through OK.
Worried of Béziers. |

Assuming you're talking about your Woodall tasks (this is the Cullen Woodall forum, after all), the tasks do not vary in size very much. You should therefore expect the three Woodall tasks that are running to take about the same amount of time as the one that completed in September. As long as your computer is on and is crunching, you should have no trouble completing those tasks by the deadline.
That being said, none of them have trickled yet -- and the task you received on October 8th definitely should have trickled by now if it's running. If your computer is only crunching part time, it's obviously going to take longer to complete the tasks.

Thanks Michael for your reply, the job to which you refer (received 08/10/16) has been running for 61hrs now, it is as you assumed a Cullen/Woodall work unit. The good news is that this particular work unit now says it has reached 47+% so the deadline will be easily reached, hope all goes well for the other somewhat huge tasks that have been received since.
I don't understand "trickled" but I'm not going to worry about it since all seems well.
Thanks again for your help. |
