Sieving :
PG manual sieving - missing mac executables

Hi all,
I made a reservation for the Factorial Prime Sieve and tried to download the executables for OSX however the Instructions page lists only links to Windows and Linux 32 and 64bit versions of the fpsieve file.
Where can I download the Mac version? The reservation page shows that the Factorial Prime Sieve is available for Mac as well.
Thanks,
Phil | |

Apparently I made a mistake. I don't see any executables for mac for that program. I've cancelled your reservation without penalty to you.

Great, thanks for the clarification.
Just out of curiosity is there a penalty for canceling reservations on the other sieve projects?

Yup, there is. There are three limitations on the sieving system, PrimeGrid credit, reputation and number of simultaneous unfinished reservations. Manual sieving is only available to those who have successfully run at least one workunit. For anyone who didn't do manual sieving in the past, reputation and max reservations start out at 5 and 2, respectively. Every time a sieving reservation is successfully completed, both go up by 1. For any cancelled reservation, they both decrease by 1 (though the maximum number of unfinished reservations only ranges from 2-10). You can reserve a range size of reputation multiplied by the minimum reservation amount for that project. So for PPR12M where the minimum reservation is 1T, with a reputation of 5 you can reserve 5T. That limit is per reservation, not all reservations combined. If reputation reaches zero, you can no longer reserve.
People who sieved in the past started with a 50 reputation and 10 simultaneous reservations. As far as I was concerned early on, they could play with the system without sacrificing the ability to reserve significant ranges.
I've been known to bump up the reputation upon request from people who want to reserve big ranges without waiting for reputation to grow naturally.
The idea behind all this is that while I don't want to get in the way of people who can and do sieve, anyone who wants to play around making reservations is going to be locked out pretty quickly. I don't have the time to police this manually.

Thanks for the detailed response. It makes a lot of sense!
