All good things must come to an end, and it's time for me to cut back my involvement with PrimeGrid. I no longer have the time to adequately take care of PrimeGrid, and I don't want to hold up progress while things wait on my "to do" list. I'm not leaving completely, but I'll be playing a much smaller and limited role around here.
Expect to see me a lot less frequently on the forums.
It's been a pleasure these last few years -- and I'm looking forward to our discoveries in the future!
(Lest unfounded rumours run rampant, there's no internal friction or infighting causing me to leave. I'm just burnt out and don't have the time to do the kind of job here that I think should be done.)

Sad to hear you are cutting down. Thanks for your hard effort over the years. I hope that your computers can and will reward your effort, by finding you a very big prime. Hope to see you back again, once you are "burnt in" ;)
Take care and once again, thanks for your huge effort over the years. Looking forward to be seeing who takes over your part of PG.

In the past, I complimented you more than once for your outstanding work at PrimeGrid, Michael, and I would like to do so again. To see you stepping back a bit, makes me sad, since you've made things happen, whether it was new badges or new challenges or (re)new(ed) subprojects or answers to so many questions in the forum. For me, these past few years, you have been the voice of PrimeGrid, and I'll miss your input.
Keep crunching, find a megaprime, but above all, find the energy for yourself and those who are dearest to you. I sure hope to see you around! |

PrimeGrid will definitely notice your reduced involvement. I always noticed that you are very prompt at answering questions and helping anyone who has asked for it. That alone will be missed as much as the work you've done behind the scene to keep PG up and running smoothly as well as keeping us non-conformists in line.
I wish you the very best in whatever you plan for in the future.
Cheers Rick |

Let's not forget that Mike was the first finder of an n=20 GFN prime (75898^524288+1) back in 2011. Which is an achievement in itself! Not that I don't wish him another one, but if so he should probably start buying lottery tickets too ;)

As a new user, you helped me many times to understand what exactly BOINC was doing and taught me best practices for all kinds of situations. I'm sure many others are equally grateful to you for your attention, dedication, and extensive knowledge and experience with Primegrid. You will be missed. |

Michael, your knowledge and dedication has allowed you to do PrimeGrid, BOINC, and the wider mathematical community a great service.
I'm sure I speak for many here when I say your transparency in this matter is greatly appreciated - nearly as much as are your contributions to PrimeGrid over the last several years. :)
Best of luck with all your real-world endeavours. I have found myself in very similar situations lately - I used to be quite active 'round here, but not so much in the last couple years - so I understand the "burnt-out" feeling.
Again, thank you for your efforts and insight! It's nice to know you are not leaving for good.

I remember when I first started noticing your involvement around the forums answering everyone's questions, even before you became one of the people who run the project. Best of luck in life.

Well, shoot, teach me to go away for a few months.
Thank you, belatedly, for all your hard work, Michael. Wish you the best as you pursue other ventures with your newly found free time(tm) :)

Thanks Mike and good luck in your other endeavors!
Variety is the spice of life; I totally understand the burn out thing. Would rather see you back off because you want to and not because you feel you have to! |

I seem to have failed miserably in my attempts to step away. :(

With deep respect, there are many of us that like that you failed at that. :)
