Factorial & Primorial Combinatorial Challenge - 01-15 November
Announced is a challenge at the FPS & PRS (Factorial & Primorial prime search projects) from the 1st till 15th of November. I suggest we start at 18:00 UTC and end at 18:00 UTC fourteen days later.
As with previous combined challenges the rankings will be determined by Score. Best to figure out which project your rigs are most efficient at before the challenge starts.
The largest known Factorial prime is 150209!+1 found in October 2011 by Dohmen, a Dutch secondary school maths teacher. Leading edge of the Factorial prime search now up to 165,415 on both the plus and minus side.
The largest known Primorial prime is 1098133# - 1 found in March 2012 by James P. Burt, a Primegrid searcher who's, "Looking for Primes :)". Leading edge of the Primorial prime search now up to 1,790,070 on both the plus and minus side.
More about the Factorial prime search can be found here. More about the Primorial prime search can be found here. News and infos about the PRPNet client can be found here.
To take part, you have to activate the following lines in prpclient.ini:
server=FPS:50:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12002
server=PRS:50:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12008
Note the 50 here sets the % of WU sent from the server, set to what %'s you prefer but must sum to 100.
Stats will be available at the well known place here.
All previous PRPNet challenge stats can be found here.
Good luck!

Testing the stats page I found several errors which are fixed now.
I hope I got all; if not feel free to report it here, while challenge is running, or send me a privat notice.
I whish you a happy halloween and beware of "trick or treat" ;-)

If you know where you installed it, then use TextEdit to edit the prpclient.ini files. I suggest that you use the Terminal app to run the application. |

Welcome to day 17 of the combinatorial challenge!
Why day 17? Because with PRPNet challenge points are awarded for WUs reported in the challenge window. Nothing says you can't start processing WUs well before the "challenge starts".
PRS WUs expire 16 days after they are sent by the server. So you can start processing their WUs < 16 days before the challenge starts.
I can see some people have been following this strategy. I started about 12 hours before the challenge started, so a bit late to the party, but I am only aiming for a top 20 finish given my hardware.
Pre-processing WUs requires a bit of skill with prpclient.ini and knowledge about how quickly you can process WUs. You wouldn't want to report before the "challenge starts". |

Woohoo. Covers my favourite project :) (Primorials).
Glad to see other people processing them. :)
Edit: One question - primorials/factorials are CPU calc only? Is there a GPU binary? (OpenCL/CUDA?)

Stats not quite working perfectly yet... team totals and user totals don't always match
PRS (port prpnet.primegrid.com:12008) - user stats
3 Lumiukko 10 61,277
PRS (port prpnet.primegrid.com:12008) - team stats
1 PrimeSearchTeam 10 61,276
rounding error? |

CPU only.
Thanks. |

I can get one instance ONLY running.
Ubuntu 14.10
If I try the 2,3,4.. instances, it tells me only on instance can run from this directory
?? Do I have to put the 1-- files in EACH directory that I want it to run in?? Sounds like ALOT of work to get it started |

Follow readme_primegrid.txt, it's all in there.
There are .sh files (.bat for Windows and .command for Mac) that installs, runs and updates PRPnet for 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 16 instances.

I put in each directory prpclient.ini (verify server=FPS:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12002 server=PRS:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12008 pfgwexe=./pfgw64) and sh ./startx.sh in each dir

I have run 165504!-1 at least 5 times and the result has been uploaded, with no useful data found.
After the data was uploaded, the xterm terminated.
And when I restarted it, I go the SAME work unit, starting from 0.
Both XTerms have worked on the SAME workunit.
How can this happen??
I will make your suggestions in my two areas and see what happen |

Turn on logging in the client. I suspect the client is having difficulty parsing the message returned from the server. BTW, which version of the client are you running? |
