While I realize there is probably little point in enabling them, I am a bit perplexed as to why my mac pro 4,1 (2009) sees the 3 gt120s I have installed (in addition to the 680), but boinc only sees the 680.

boinc 7.4.19
web driver 334.01.03f01
cuda 6.5.18

Any ideas? Should I just scrap them?

Part of the problem could be "Standard Memory Config 512MB".
I found the specs here:

cuda 6.5.18 is 64-bit, you'll need the latest (alpha) version for boinc to load the cuda libraries.

problem 2 is then that the prime apps are 32-bit and so won't see them itself...

Out of curiosity, I put 2 identical gt120s in, with no other cards. Boinc happily feeds the first, but not the second.

This (not used) wasn't present when I mixed the 120s and 680.

Oh hang on, the 680 is more powerful than the others, so BOINC may well have ignored them. You can force it to use all it finds (i.e not do the "not used") by having the use_all_gpus flag set in a config file (see http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration, and you'll need to re-run the installer after adding/changing this file to correct user permissions).

Also apologies for my earlier answer, boinc 7.4.19 should be the earliest that you need. I do notice you mention cuda 6.5.18. I have not tried this version, i tried the 6.5.14 version and it was correctly seen by 7.4.19+ (i since reverted to 6.0.x cuda as many science applications wont work on osx cuda 6.5 at the moment).

In some cases having two Nvidia gpu's in the same machine makes Boinc fill the cache for one of them but ignore the other gpu. Putting each on it's own project fixes it immediately. Use the 'exclude' option to do it. Like this:

<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
<exclude_gpu>
<url>http://www.primegrid.com/</url>
<device_num>1</device_num>
</exclude_gpu>
</options>
</cc_config>

The above excludes device #1 from PrimeGrid.

I saw some wierdness in the interaction of the cards and the pcie lanes available (like with both cards in, one was getting 2 lanes depending on which slot they were in). So I'm guessing I have a far deeper-rooted problem.

As an aside, does anyone know who got that 295x into a mac? I would love to know how they powered it (I figured my 280x was as good as I could get in ati without resorting to external power).

Ok, in the interest of persistence, I tried putting a gt 640 in as a secondary card (secondary to a 680 in a mac pro 3,1), which works fine if it is solo in a system.

Whichever card is in the first (lowest) pcie slot seems to get recognized and used, but any other card doesn't, with a dreaded "Geforce GT 640 cannot be used for CUDA or OpenCL computation with CUDA driver 6.5 or later". If I swap positions, whichever card is in the second (from the bottom) gets the "cannot be used" message, whether it is the 680 or the 640.

Any solutions?

I had 2 amd 5770s in this system for well over a year, so have good confidence that both slots are working.

I had 2 amd 5770s in this system for well over a year, so have good confidence that both slots are working.

Your pc's are hidden so I can't look...is this a Windows machine? If so you may have to plug in a 2nd monitor on boot-up or make a "dummy plug" for the 2nd gpu. http://www.overclock.net/t/384733/the-30-second-dummy-plug

Windows can disable resources it doesn't think you will use when it boots up, so if your 2nd gpu isn't plugged into a 2nd monitor Windows can think 'well he isn't going to use it so I will just disable it', a "dummy plug" gives just enough resistance that it looks like a 2nd monitor is plugged in. The resistors you will need are less than 5 dollars at radio Shack. I have to use one on all of my dual gpu Windows machines, but some others don't. I don't know why?!

This is for stand alone gpu's ONLY, not the built into the motherboard one.

OSX 10.10.1. I think I may have solved it with the relevant cc_config.xml mod:

<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
</options>
</cc_config>

AND a reinstall of cuda 6.5.25 after the cards were installed. I still get the message, but it goes ahead and uses the GPU anyway. Strange, but I'll take it.

As to to the no-monitor-plugged in issue, I have seen it in osx and be very card specific, and only on ati cards (in windows I have seen it on nvidia as well).

Duh I forgot all about that!

Sometimes you have to install it once for each card in Windows.

As to to the no-monitor-plugged in issue, I have seen it in osx and be very card specific, and only on ati cards (in windows I have seen it on nvidia as well).

Yeah it is strange isn't it?
