Welcome to the Sovereign Challenge
Sovereignty is important to any and every nation. In this challenge we will be celebrating this important right by holding a 3 day challenge on three consecutive days containing many celebrations across the world for sovereignty.

On June 25th Mozambique celebrates independence day and Croatia, Slovenia and Virginia celebrate statehood day. June 26th sees a party in Madagascar in honour of their independence and Romania celebrates its flag. The day after, we move over to Djibouti to celebrate their independence and on the last day Ukraine commemorates the signing of their first constitution in 1996.

To join the celebrations, select the Sierpinski-Riesel Base 5 subproject in your project preferences.

Since the start of the last challenge on SR5, we have managed to find a whopping 26 primenumbers in the SR5 subproject, of which no less than 9 are over one million digits long!

This project is an extension of the original Sierpinski/Riesel problems (SoB/TRP). It is attempting to solve the Sierpinski/Riesel problems for base 5 by determining the smallest Sierpinski/Riesel numbers. Therefore, primes of the form k*5^n+/-1 are being sought for even k's.

A distributed effort is currently ongoing in support of the project. More information can be found in the mersenneforum.org Sierpinski/Riesel Base 5 thread.

To participate in the Challenge, please select only the SR5 (LLR) project in your PrimeGrid preferences section. The challenge will begin June 25th 2014, 18:00 UTC and end June 28th 2014, 18:00 UTC. Application builds are available for Linux , Windows and MacIntel 32 bit and 64 bit. Intel CPU's with AVX and FMA capabilities will be significantly faster than the ones without, as this instruction set allows for more computing power.

ATTENTION: The primality program LLR is CPU intensive; so, it is vital to have a stable system with good cooling. It does not tolerate "even the slightest of errors." Please see this post for more details on how you can "stress test" your computer. WU's will take about 2.5 hours on fast/newer computers and 5+ hours on slower/older computers. If your computer is highly overclocked, please consider "stress testing" it. Sieving is an excellent alternative for computers that are not able to LLR. :)

Restricted airflow is one of the primary reasons for overheating. Take the time to monitor the fans and review the dust buildup. Please, please, please make sure your machines are up to the task.

NOTE: Should you be lucky enough to find a prime, extra processing is required and the run-time may be as much as 10 times longer than normal.

DON'T ABORT TASKS THAT SEEM TO BE TAKING AN UNUSUALLY LONG TIME TO RUN!

Time zone converter

The World Clock - Time Zone Converter

NOTE: The countdown clock on the front page uses the host computer time. Therefore, if your computer time is off, so will the countdown clock. For precise timing, use the UTC Time in the data section to the left of the countdown clock.

Scoring Information

Scores will be kept for individuals and teams. Only work units issued AFTER June 25th 2014, 18:00 UTC and received BEFORE June 28th 2014, 18:00 UTC will be considered for credit. We will use the same scoring method as for BOINC credits .

Therefore, each completed WU will earn a unique score based on its n value. The higher the n, the higher the score. This is different than BOINC cobblestones! A quorum of 2 is NOT needed to award Challenge score - i.e. no double checker. Therefore, each returned result will earn a Challenge score. Please note that if the result is eventually declared invalid, the score will be removed.

For details on how the score is calculated, please see this thread.

At the Conclusion of the Challenge

We would prefer users "moving on" to finish those tasks they have downloaded, if not then please ABORT the WU's instead of DETACHING, RESETTING, or PAUSING.

ABORTING WU's allows them to be recycled immediately; thus a much faster "clean up" to the end of an LLR Challenge. DETACHING, RESETTING, and PAUSING WU's causes them to remain in limbo until they EXPIRE. Therefore, we must wait until WU's expire to send them out to be completed.

Please consider either completing what's in the queue or ABORTING them. Thank you. :)

    Best of Luck!!!

Sierpinski Base 5 - The smallest even Sierpinski base 5 number is suggested to be k=159986. To prove this, it is sufficient to show that k*5^n+1 is prime for each even k < 159986. This has currently been achieved for all even k, with the exception of the following 40 values (as of 17 January 2014):
      k = 6436, 7528, 10918, 24032, 26798, 29914, 31712, 36412, 41738, 44348, 44738, 45748, 51208, 58642, 60394, 62698, 64258, 67612, 67748, 71492, 74632, 76724, 77072, 81556, 83936, 84284, 90056, 92158, 92906, 93484, 105464, 109208, 118568, 126134, 133778, 138514, 139196, 144052, 152588, 154222

Riesel Base 5 - The smallest even Riesel base 5 number is suggested to be k=346802. To prove this, it is sufficient to show that k*5^n-1 is prime for each even k < 346802. This has currently been achieved for all even k, with the exception of the following 82 values (as of 25 April 2014):

      k = 3622, 4906, 22478, 23906, 26222, 35248, 35816, 52922, 53546, 63838, 64598, 66916, 68132, 71146, 76354, 81134, 88444, 92936, 100186, 102818, 102952, 109238, 109838, 109862, 127174, 131848, 134266, 136804, 138172, 143632, 145462, 145484, 146264, 146756, 147844, 151042, 152428, 154844, 159388, 164852, 170386, 170908, 171362, 177742, 180062, 182398, 187916, 189766, 190334, 194368, 195872, 201778, 204394, 206894, 207494, 213988, 231674, 238694, 239062, 239342, 246238, 248546, 259072, 265702, 267298, 271162, 273662, 285598, 285728, 296024, 298442, 301562, 304004, 306398, 313126, 318278, 322498, 325918, 325922, 327926, 335414, 338866

    History
Robert Smith originally presented the idea of a Sierpinski/Riesel base 5 search on 17 September 2004, in the primeform yahoo group. Using {3,7,13,31,601} as the covering set, he proposed that k=346802 is the smallest Riesel base 5 number. Shortly afterwards, Guido Smetrijns proposed that k=159986 is the smallest Sierpinski base 5 number.

After doing most of the initial work himself, Robert posted in the mersenneforum.org on 28 September 2004, and thus, the distributed effort began. Other principle players in the development, management, and growth of the project are Lars Dausch, Geoff Reynolds, Anand S Nair, and Thomas Masser.

I noticed this in the project selection page:

"SR5 may run up to 4 times slower than other LLR tasks on some older CPUs such as AMD Semprons."

What is it about Semprons that makes them slower? What AMD processors does this apply to, and does it apply to any Intel processors?

While I'm at it, someone should probably mention the other note there in this thread:

"Calculation time may be up to 10 times longer if a prime is found."

I don't know exactly, but my (really old) basement space heater, also known as a 32-bit Sempron 3000+, markedly crunches some types of numbers much slower than others, as compared to a newer CPU. When I noticed this, what I observed was that the Sempron would run SR5s about 4 times slower than expected based on how fast it runs PPS.

I believe it is because AMD Sempron & Older AMD Athlon XP/XP+ SINGLE CORE CPU's lack the "SSE2" instruction set which makes a BIG difference in computational run times on everything but sieve's here at PG.

-edit: Those CPU's are quite ancient 10+ years ago technology if I recall, but do make good space heaters in the winter. Had 2 AMD Athlon XP 2600+ on this and other projects until the power supplies gave finally died of old age and/or one too many power surges.

Indeed, that's why they're slow -- but the the puzzling part is why they're slower (as compared to modern CPUs) on Reisel numbers (c == -1) than on Proth numbers (c == +1). Actually, it's not that much of a puzzle, really, but rather that I don't know the exact answer. It's likely that the algorithm used for the -1 testing makes better use of the sse2 instructions than does the +1 test, so the old Sempron suffers more in a -1 test by not having those sse2 instructions.

Hi, gonna run the challenge on my good old fx 6300, would there be a difference in how many wu-s i run at the same time? I'm planning to run 4 wu-s the same time.

On CPUs without hyperthreading, which includes all AMD processors (such as yours), I would recommend running all the cores.

On Intel processors that have hyperthreading, I recommend either turning the hyperthreading off, if it's possible, or otherwise running only half the "cores".

On Intel processors that have hyperthreading, I recommend either turning the hyperthreading off, if it's possible, or otherwise running only half the "cores".

Actually, your CPU has only 1 64 bit Floating Point unit per module (2 interger + 1 floating point threads per module) and yours has 3, therefore running more than 3 would just slow down your computations as if your did have an Intel CPU with Hyperthreading on and you would get no benefit by running more than 3 at a time. The LLR app that Primegrid has uses 64 bit floating point for it's computations. This goes for ALL AMD FX CPUs. FX 4xxx has 2 modules, FX 6xxx has 3 and FX 8xxx has 4 modules.

So, I'm pleased to announce, am I. By the skin of my proverbials.

Still need to find the old router, extension cable & mouse of this machine though.

Unfortunately, mother nature had other plans for me. Heat and humidity means air conditioning on, crunching off. :(

It doesn't look like it's going to cool down anytime soon, either, so I'm probably sitting out this challenge.

Wow, this makes my laptop 5C hotter than PPSE! I've had to throttle it back below stock speed, with the fan at maximum!

That's unexpected. It should run hotter on PPSE, which uses smaller FFT sizes. That, in turn, means fewer cache misses and less waiting for memory, so the CPU spends more time calculating, consuming power, and generating heat.

I'm at a loss to explain how it could run hotter on SR5 than PPSE.

Unless the mem is really close to CPU, since the mem runs hotter with higher FFT, it could be heating the cpu with the memory.. My only thought.

Ok then, thanks, i'll run on 3 cores then, via the boinc manager, setting use at most 50% of the processors.

I don't think that's exactly right. Here's a diagram of Bulldozer:

Bulldozer has one 256-bit shared floating-point unit between 2 cores. This can be split into doing two 128-bit SSE instructions at a time, but it can only do one AVX instruction at a time. This is (partly) why LLR doesn't use AVX on AMD: It's not as fast as running one SSE thread on each core.

Net result: One LLR per core should be faster than one every 2 cores.

You are right. I was mistaken on the bit size but still right on the threading. Also I forgot about the AVX reasoning as well. Here's a quote from Anandtech:

Intel's Core architecture uses a unified scheduler fielding all instructions, whether integer or floating point. AMD's architecture uses independent integer and floating point schedulers. While Bulldozer doubles up on the integer schedulers, there's only a single floating point scheduler in the design.

Behind the FP scheduler are two 128-bit wide FMACs. AMD says that each thread dispatched to the core can take one of the 128-bit FMACs or, if one thread is purely integer, the other can use all of the FP execution resources to itself.

Heres a review of the Piledriver FX line from Anandtech as well:

I'm sure AMD's upcoming new architecture will finally run AVX on every REAL core as well as Intel does when it comes out in 2-3 years finally leveling the playing field between the two.

Please note that I am not interested running first in this challenge, but it is time to complain again.

The last time I complained I was told that it is not possible to gain credits for WU's issued before the start of the challenge. If this is still the case how is it possible to gain credits exceeding 20Million 2 hours after the start. There are numerous teams and users with high credits. At least 100 users have already gained credits. Surely this must be from Bunkering. In my case using a number of computers, 4 hours after the start, I am still at a % complete of between 50-70%. If bunkering is accepted than don't create the rule.

From the Rules:
"Scores will be kept for individuals and teams. Only work units issued AFTER June 25th 2014, 18:00 UTC and received BEFORE June 28th 2014, 18:00 UTC will be considered for credit.

Teams/users with lots of credit at the start are due to one of two things:
1. Lots of computers
---OR---
2. failures in calculation

There are errors that return the WU without doing much work at all, they are eventually proved invalid and taken out of the standings, however, workunits count as challenge points as soon as they are returned, including pending and valid workunits. If they are proved invalid, they are removed from the challenge statistics.

I have no clue where you're getting your numbers from, but they're not correct.

Nobody has 20 million points in the challenge. No team has 20 million points.

At this point in time, the individual at the top of the leader board has about 144 thousand points, and the top team has 400 thousand points.

The fastest computers can crunch these tasks in about 2 hours, and some people use hundreds or even thousands of cores. There are some people who bring a lot of computing power to these challenges!

Furthermore, 1998golfer is correct in that someone with a malfunctioning computer (a full disk, for example) could potentially generate hundreds or thousands of seemingly "valid" results in a very short period of time. These might temporarily show up as valid scores on the leaderboard, but the system detects this pretty quickly and removes them. However, this has not happened so far in this challenge. There's only a very small number of invalidated tasks in the challenge.

In addition, I believe that he may be crunching SR5 (LLR) with hyperthreading enabled on his Intel boxes, explaining his longer than expected completion time for each task.

I got those scores from a reputable Stats site BOINCStats. My understanding is that you provide those stats to them. If they are wrong, then you should warn users not to accept these stats. (I just checked those stats again Projects Challemge - PrimeGrid sovereign Challenge - users stats - 25 Jun 2014 - 28Jun 2014 at 0300UTC)

Having said thAt, I have also been watching your stats since start and I just can not accept that the scores were so high for some of them after 2 hrs is because they had a lot a lot machines. You have advertised that those WU's will take hours to complete on a fast machine. What I can not accept is that scores are given to at least 100 users in the first two hours. If they are erronous, than why do you give them credit in the first place, surely there must be something wrong with the way it is calculated and promulgated, don't give us false hope for this is a challenge. Don't give people credit than take them away, it is just not fair..

As I said, I do not care where I finish on the table, I just like to be included in what I perceive to be an equal field. If Bunkers is accepted than in future, I will also bunker, or just give the game away as most of 10 machines are i7 4930 or i73930 and I would have thought they are in the top class rigs, but to not see myself in the score amongst a hundred after 4 hours is why I am questioning what is happening. I also do not see any errors in my submissions. My machines are not overclocked and i do not see any sign of not behaving the way they should.

I got those scores from a reputable Stats site BOINCStats.

I never look at BOINCStats. It isn't part of PrimeGrid.com. I don't care what stats they post there or where they obtained them.

PrimeGrid's home page has the correct links for the Sovereign Challenge. I also listed them in an earlier post.

Your crunching times for SR5 (LLR) seems slow for your cpus. Do you have hyperthreading enabled? I do not - examine my task completion times for SR5 (LLR).

EDIT: My sole machine's i7-4770K is not overclocked. In fact, I've disabled turbo mode and locked the clock speed at 3.5 ghz to help control heat when crunching. I've been able to complete SR5 (LLR) tasks in under 2 hours using 3 cores (reserving the 4th for a gpu task).

Plain and simple, it's not possible to cheat by "hoarding" tasks before the beginning of the challenge. The server records when the task was sent out, when it was returned, and the script that produces the challenge results only includes tasks that were both sent and received during the challenge.

Believe what you wish, but nobody is (successfully) cheating or gaming the system to get to the top of the challenge leader boards.

Just to clear up a point guys. I said that I got my stats from BOINCStats and I was also looking at the Project Stats. Obviously they are not the same. Since it is Primegrid who exports their stats, I have no idea why they should promulgate such a waste results unless I am mistaken and have looked at the wrong stats Do not forget that Primegrid advertise their numerous challenges on BOINCStats some of us follow those stats because if I did not, I would not have been aware of the Challenge. The source I am referring to is this:

The time I looked at those stats was 0320 hrs 26 Jun 2014 UTC.

Again, BOINCStats is a third party site and we have absolutely no control over what they do with their website. We don't advertise any challenges there. We don't send them any information. PrimeGrid makes various types of information available for anyone to use. Many stats sites read those files from PrimeGrid and other BOINC sites and do whatever they want with that data. We, of course, have no control over what they do.

If you have a problem with BOINCStats, you need to contact them. We can't fix it here. And before you ask, yes, I checked that the stats files we're producing are correct.

Please close this thread for I have started this and I shall finish it as it is my provocative. I never accused anybody of cheating, I just pointed out that the stats appear to be wrong. I did not realize that Primegrid do not make mistakes. All I wanted is to report to you that I will not accept a score of Millions within two hours of the start. If Primegrid is not interested that a Stats site is misusing your exported stats and falsely reporting those wrong results than I have nothing further to do with PrimeGrid. Surely, it is not the users job to report that the stats are wrong at a third party Stats site.. How do I know it is wrong in the first place. I have been reading results of both Team and Project challenges from the BOINCStats site and I believed this to be the right thing to do. Nobody said anywhere on your site that I must watch your site only as most other project and Team Challenges do not have a reporting site on their project site.. First I have to go to the source and confirm it that indeed they are wrong. If you do not care what they publish than it is fine with me. There are over 70 projects that export stats correctly. If yours is not correct than why don't you say something to BOINCStats, it should not be my job. Better still.

Keep on crunching and have a nice day...

It looks like BOINCstats has been showing the stats from the challenge before instead of the current one everytime since January. I just made them aware of that Problem.

I believe it is because AMD Sempron & Older AMD Athlon XP/XP+ SINGLE CORE CPU's lack the "SSE2" instruction set which makes a BIG difference in computational run times on everything but sieve's here at PG.

I have a different theory.
I believe George Woltman stopped development of non-SSE2 code base a while back. There was some support for efficient FFTs for k*2^n+/-1 forms, but limited to small k's. Larger k's and non-base-2 tests used a "Generic FFT" code path which was much slower. The full support for k*b^n+/-c forms that we see today was added much later and only is available for SSE2 (and newer). Jean Penne himself had implemented some FFTs for k*2^n+/-1 for non-SSE2 (using Colin Percival's DFT algorithm), but this too is available for small k's only.
So what I think is happening is here is that PPS is using small k's, and hence can use the more efficient non-SSE2 FFTs, while others are using either larger k's or bases other than 2, and hence are using the less efficient Generic non-SSE2 FFTs.

You can probably look at the LLR output and see if this is happening.

As far as I know, PrimeGrid is the only one of those projects that has ever run dual, simultaneous challenges as we did this past January. That's the underlying cause of the problem.

The existing stats format had no way to accommodate such a thing. It had to be changed. In December, we redesigned how the stats worked, from top to bottom, to make simultaneous challenges possible. As much as possible, we made it backwards compatible with the old format. 100% compatibility wasn't possible, but it was close. Only some small changes would be required on external sites. If those changes weren't made, the the possibility of getting the stats associated with the wrong challenge existed.

Unfortunately, real life happens, and people don't always have the time to tinker with websites. That's what happened here. BOINCStats wasn't changed to use the new format.

If we didn't change the format, the challenge stats would break. If we changed the format and the stats sites didn't change their end, the challenge stats would break.

We changed it, and hoped they would get a chance to update their side. I guess that never happened. Again, there was nothing we could do about it on our end given that we were running dual challenges.

That being said -- the dual challenges are over. I may be able to tweak the stats so that they work again for BOINCStats, but they'll have problems again if we run dual challenges next year.

UPDATE: I've reverted the stats back to the way they used to be. That should hopefully fix BOINCStats' problem. Reverting to the old format has the unfortunate side affect of eliminating cleanup information from the stats, but that's unavoidable. Prior to the December changes, we had no way of communicating cleanup information to external sites. That was added along with the dual challenge change. Any changes to challenge stats during the cleanup won't be reflected in any third party's site now. (Which is the same as it used to be before December.)

STATUS UPDATE:

Challenge: Sovereign
(As of 2014-06-26 10:23:05 UTC)

27530 tasks have been sent out. [CPU/GPU/anonymous_platform: 27446 (100%) / 0 (0%) / 84 (0%)]

Of those tasks that have been sent out:

475 (2%) came back with some kind of an error. [475 (2%) / 0 (0%) / 0 (0%)]
9794 (36%) have returned a successful result. [9738 (35%) / 0 (0%) / 56 (0%)]
17261 (63%) are still in progress. [17233 (63%) / 0 (0%) / 28 (0%)]

Of the tasks that have been returned successfully:

5505 (56%) are pending validation. [5477 (56%) / 0 (0%) / 28 (0%)]
4271 (44%) have been successfully validated. [4243 (43%) / 0 (0%) / 28 (0%)]
3 (0%) were invalid. [3 (0%) / 0 (0%) / 0 (0%)]
15 (0%) are inconclusive. [15 (0%) / 0 (0%) / 0 (0%)]

The current leading edge (i.e., latest work unit for which work has actually been sent out to a host) is n=1701686. The leading edge was at n=1686272 at the beginning of the challenge. Since the challenge started, the leading edge has advanced 0.91% as much as it had prior to the challenge!

So far, that a much lower error rate than we've seen in other challenges. I hope that trend holds up!

It's not quite 18 hours yet and 27 thousand tasks have been sent out. Nearly 10 thousand have been returned. On a normal day less than 2000 SR5 tasks are processed.

[/quote]

Ok then, i'm gonna run more then 3 wu-s at once, and see what gives.

PrimeGrid administrators have recently put very much effort in trying to get crunchers crunch specific sub-projects. Just this week, the ESP double check (get that new badges!) was hardly finished, and crunchers were already kindly ushered to SR5 (challenge!) and as soon as that's finished, we're served the reopening PSP Sieve (advance on the old badges!).

I'm amazed at the crunching power that's available for PrimeGrid, but not at the crunchers' goodwill to focus on the specific sub-projects you put in the spotlights. Your open communication and expert handling of the whole project deserve our cooperation!

Believe it or not, we're usually not really trying to get people to crunch anything specific. Sure, it's nice to have a big kickoff to a new project, or get people to work on a double check, but you've got to have a lot of patience in this business, and it usually doesn't matter how long these things take. (There are exceptions, however.)

What we do care about is keeping things interesting, keeping things fresh, and doing new stuff that keeps people interested. That includes not only the adding new projects, but that's also one of the purposes of the challenges. The challenges are also intended to get people to try new projects, and, of course, to bring people to PrimeGrid.

I share your hope. I looked back at the stats posted for the DTSMC (PSP LLR) from March 2014 and 54% of the tasks had been returned with an error. We're at 2% so far on Sovereign. If errors occur at random times, that's roughly the ratio that one would expect (the error rate is 1/27th, and the tasks are about 1/23rd [according to the prefs page] as long). But, I think it is true that most errors do *not* occur at random times. Most errors occur probably occur in the first second or two, due to software/boinc mis-configuration, meaning they will kill any task, no matter how long it would have run.

So I'm on board with the theory that crunchers are learning to run PG more reliably, we've solved some issues like the hideous "3 second error" problem, and so on. I know that the "fast fail" errors really don't cause a problem with the throughput, but still, it's wasted electricity if nothing else. Cheers.

It's not random. On CPU tasks, there's only a few things that will cause the task to fail outright. (There's always calculation errors due to excessive overclocking, but that's a different beast altogether.)

Unfortunately, a computer that DOES have a problem that fully prevents the tasks from running will generate errors at an astounding rate. A handful of bad computers (out of several thousand) is all it takes to get a 50% error rate. High error rates therefore don't surprise me. It's almost inevitable. (And speaking of inevitable, here's the answer to the inevitable question: it causes more problems than it solves to try to get the server to block hosts like that.)

That we're seeing so few errors is extraordinary. My compliments to all the crunchers for a job well done!

On GPUs, error rates are higher because it's really, really easy to make a GPU program not work.

I see that distribution of workunits has stopped for k=22478. Are my suspicions correct? :)

Yes. There was a prime found a week ago. We're waiting on the wingman.

I thought we had dispensed with the wingperson protocol because of the last SNAFU?

There are some unresolved issues with that plan, unfortunately. (Don't bother asking because I don't recall the specifics.)

Only tasks sent out AFTER the start of the challenge (June 25th at 18:00:00 UTC) count towards the challenge.

All of the tasks you've returned so far were sent to you nearly a day BEFORE the challenge started and are therefore ineligible for the challenge.

OK Michael, I understand.
I am still crunching tasks send to me before June 25th at 18:00:00 UTC.
I will stop this, I am just crunching for nothing for this challenge...

At the Conclusion of the Challenge

We would prefer users "moving on" to finish those tasks they have downloaded, if not then please ABORT the WU's instead of DETACHING, RESETTING, or PAUSING.

ABORTING WU's allows them to be recycled immediately; thus a much faster "clean up" to the end of a Challenge. DETACHING, RESETTING, and PAUSING WU's causes them to remain in limbo until they EXPIRE. Therefore, we must wait until WU's expire to send them out to be completed.

The challenge is complete!

Challenge: Sovereign
(As of 2014-06-28 18:51:07 UTC)

94475 tasks have been sent out. [CPU/GPU/anonymous_platform: 94166 (100%) / 0 (0%) / 309 (0%)]

Of those tasks that have been sent out:

8084 (9%) came back with some kind of an error. [8062 (9%) / 0 (0%) / 22 (0%)]
63963 (68%) have returned a successful result. [63696 (67%) / 0 (0%) / 267 (0%)]
21274 (23%) are still in progress. [21255 (22%) / 0 (0%) / 19 (0%)]

Of the tasks that have been returned successfully:

14227 (22%) are pending validation. [14156 (22%) / 0 (0%) / 71 (0%)]
49384 (77%) have been successfully validated. [49189 (77%) / 0 (0%) / 195 (0%)]
140 (0%) were invalid. [140 (0%) / 0 (0%) / 0 (0%)]
212 (0%) are inconclusive. [211 (0%) / 0 (0%) / 1 (0%)]

The current leading edge (i.e., latest work unit for which work has actually been sent out to a host) is n=1735853. The leading edge was at n=1686272 at the beginning of the challenge. Since the challenge started, the leading edge has advanced 2.94% as much as it had prior to the challenge!

Over 10 times the normal amount of SR5 work was done during the challenge, and that doesn't count work started before the challenge began or tasks that are still in progress. Well done!

We haven't officially announced it yet, but a prime WAS found during the challenge! Congratulations!!!

Yes. The BOINCstats has been showing the wrong challenge under each PG challenge name since January. The simple reason is that the challenge list was set up on BS pages before the first one started.. and then PG added another challenge to the list (the Pony challenge) This was never fixed on the BoincStats page - and instead the Pony challenge (#2) shows under the name "Double Top Secret Mystery Challenge" (#3) - - This is why it continues to show the wrong numbers throughout the year.

No doubt it would be better with no PG challenge stats showing on BS, rather than wrong numbers, that only leads to confusion.
But the best would be that it shows correctly on BS. ;-)

The challenge is complete!

Challenge: Sovereign
(As of 2014-06-28 18:51:07 UTC)

We haven't officially announced it yet, but a prime WAS found during the challenge! Congratulations!!!

It seems you're wrong: 2 primes were found during the challenge.

For the second, it's not clear, the submitted date seems to be in the challenge hours, the last modified date, after the challenge.

But anyway, congratulations for the primes.

The dates on the Top 500 Primes website are the dates we (or the prime finder) submit the prime to that website, NOT the date the prime was discovered. Sometimes there can be a significant gap between the time of discovery and the time of submission.

In this case, the first of those two primes was discovered about a week before the challenge (2014-06-19 03:36), while the second prime was the only one actually discovered during the challenge (2014-06-27 20:20). Both primes were submitted to the T5K site at almost the same time, however.

It's great seeing how much the SR5 project has advanced in roughly the year that it has been in since the project moved from PRPnet to BOINC. Hopefully ESP will get to see the same benefits.

But the best would be that it shows correctly on BS. ;-)

I am with you Moon. I have tried to report this twice to Prime Grid only to be jumped on and questioned and told that it is not possible to show 20million credits for one user and when they discovered that the stats was in BOINCStats all I was told that they can not do anything about that and I should take it up with them. In this thread you will find that the stats reporting has again been changed trying to rectify the problem no doubt. However, the problem is that it is not reported in the News section so that Stats sites could read them in the RSS feeds. It is no use hiding those changes buried in a message board threads.

To fix this just write a newsgroup post on the BS forum:
http://boincstats.com/en/forum/
This is what I do with the FreeDC stats site and problems get fixed quick.
Primegrid is run by Volunteers, they don't get paid.
I noticed this challenge problem on BS months ago, but I don't visit BS very often so left for others to report. You could be that person.

I'm hiding all of the "Stats aren't working on BOINCStats" posts. There's nothing wrong with that discussion, but it's off topic here. If anyone wants to continue that discussion in public, drop me a private message and I'll move those posts to a new thread.

I've contacted the OP privately to follow up on some of the details.

Thank you for your cooperation!

EDIT: On second thought -- I'm not going to hide the posts, but I do ask that no further posts be made on it. (I will hide subsequent posts on the topic.) The offer to move the posts still stands, however, if anyone wants to continue the discussion.

I've got my mop and broom out in "clean up" mode, although from the numbers on the front page, we're doing fine in that regard. Eh, what the hey, SR5 seems as good a place as any for now for badge-chasing and prime-finding. Congrats to the two recent finders, especially one of my teammates. Good job everyone on the challenge.

Hello,

I've read this thread and was unaware of the effect of having hyperthreading enabled versus how many cores are continually operating. Would someone be able to check the times on my machine, computer ID: 432189?

Here is a link to a result:
http://www.primegrid.com/result.php?resultid=551672574

If someone could advise me as to what would be best for throughput in terms of HT (1/0) and how many cores (max four) to run I would be grateful. It is an osx machine and a link to the appropriate forum thread to enable/disable HT would also be useful.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, no sense in wasting cycles. Thanks in advance.

The best advice is to test it both ways on your computer and see which produces better results. As a general rule of thumb, it's better to run LLR or Genefer with hyperthreading turned off (or, if that's not possible, only use 50% of the cores), and leave hyperthreading on and use all the cores when running a sieve. That's only a guideline, however, and it's not true on all computers.

There's too many things that affect performance. It's not possible to predict how a particular configuration will perform. You've got to try it and see for yourself.
