On 1 computer, I just had all 8 of my 321 run to the end and with error. I played with my hyperthreading setting in the bios recently - turned it off. Ah, now its only running 4 of the 321 tasks. So I turned it back on again. I am reasonably sure that it was these tasks that completed with error. I will be turning off hperthreading when all my tasks are complete as I am reasonably sure they run approx twice as fast. (I will know for sure when I run tasks to completion with hyperthreading turned off) I would rather get less tasks done more quickly and I am sure prime grid would prefer that too.

I run with HT off in the belief that it produces less heat.

Over ssh, I noticed X was leaking on the Slax box connected to PG. So I rebooted it remotely. Consequently I lost some tests that were waiting to communicate with PG and some that were 90% done. The next time I get a leak, I will locally suspend the tasks and then reboot the Slax box.

HT on is faster


One thing I always try to tell people asking for advice is that every computer is different and they should test it on their hardware.

That's what you did -- and now you know for certain which is faster on that machine.

One additional word of advice: the results you see for SGS might not be the same as for other tasks. SGS is the second shortest of the LLR tasks, and it's possible that longer tasks will behave differently.

I agree, with HT off my ESP, PPS and PPSE LLR runs faster, but not the SR5 units.
