Nice work. I can't help but think that you may have been inspired by Red Dwarf psi-moon episode. But anyways - good ideas are universal. RIP 3*2^n+1 and 3*2^n-1 candidates below 3 million decimal digits! |

You wanted the episode - I just looked at my TVR - all I can get is MCMXCII which is 1992?
I looked at the start again - the episode is called Terrorform. |

Congrats to PrimeGrid's crunchers for double checking all 3*2^n-1 and 3*2^n+1 up to exponent 11 million. The former should get a new prime with an exponent less than 12 million! |

We've now tested and double-checked all candidates through 15 million bits--the last candidate finished DCing less than a day before the SoB double-check ended. On to 16M! |

Double-checked through 15.5 million bits. This last half-million went much faster than usual thanks to the ARPANET challenge in October. |

After a few moments of what the? I do remember it.
However, it makes zero sense :) |

It's been a while.
There were some fantastic 18 months from January 2014 through June 2015 where four 321 finds were done. Since then, no more finds.

Done through 16M bits!
Still no new primes since 3*2^11895718-1. At this point one would expect about 2.5 new primes since then, with over a 90% chance of at least one. As for the future, there should be about 1 prime between n=16M and 18M. |

We've now finished testing all candidates through 16.5M bits, and the leading edge is just over 5M digits. Two exciting things have happened since the last update: first, we started using Pavel Atnashev's LLR2, which effectively doubles the speed of the search. And second, the drought finally ended with Scott Brown's 4,939,547-digit prime 3*2^16408818+1! |
