New Year Cleaning
Announced is a open end challenge at PPSElow Proth Prime Search Project from January first until the port is empty and no pending workunits remain. I suggest we start at 00:00 UTC to start timely with the cleanup ;-)
More about Proth Prime Search can be found here. News and infos about the PRPNet client can be found here.
To take part, you have to activate the following lines in prpclient.ini:
server=PPSElow:100:10:prpnet.mine.nu:12000
Attention: please take care to fetch more than one workunit from the server! They are really short.
Stats will be available 15 minutes after the start at the well known place here
With the best whishes for new year 2013!
Enjoy and relax, if you can ...

It's called New Year Cleaning, so I'd expect it to start at 0:00 UTC. ;)

I'm in favour of 0:00 UTC.
Sorry, I've already started - put extra ~40 cores (mostly AVX) there...for another 40 hours if all goes well. Those will not be available later and are non-BOINC hosts.

Lets be realistic: 00:00 UTC is New Year in any country, but insted to be near our computers most of us will be celebrating :)
So lets pronounce start for 12 h , or at 12:00 UTC or as suggested 18:00UT ( as many challenges start as usual)
Since it will be 1.1 2013, and it is New Year, so name of challenge is true :)

I vote for 00:00:00 1-Jan-2013 UTC. We can't pick a time zone that suits everyone, and since this challenge is symbolically tied to the new year, midnight UTC seems as good as any. Just my 2 pence/cents/euros/pesos/ngultrum.
Happy new year everyone, whenever it greets you.

00:00 UTC. The lead is already up to ~443,000 out of 449,999. There will be nothing left if we delay the start. Lets clear this port!
Happy New Year everyone!

I've busted out my five year old MacIntel laptop and started it on the port as well as my desktop. In order to get the laptop to work, I had to comment out phrot and both versions of PFGW included in 5.2.2. Hopefully that doesn't ruin anything (although I think it will only matter if it finds a prime, which I doubt it will since it is taking about 4min/WU).

The PPSLow server is estimating 10 days before it runs out of work:

So should finish the challenge on about the 10th of January.

The only problem *I* had at the start was due to traffic and my getting home 10 minutes late. Why, why, WHY!!! I'll never get those 10 minutes back! AAAUGH!!
Just kidding. All is well. At least no worse than usual around here. :-)
Thanks for running the challenge. Let's finish 'er off quickly.

So should finish the challenge on about the 10th of January.
Should be done much earlier. We've already done more than 100k tasks today. At this pace, the remaining 550k tasks will be done in 66 hours. :)

we will wait for the pendings before finish the challenge
Pendings will not change the top 5 (and will hardly change the top 10), I think.
BTW, I have 50 "pendings" that I will not finish and that I cant abort because the save.file was terminated by accident. If anyone has the ability to remove them from the server and resend them before their deadline, please do.
