A little bird told me that it was already reported to the Prime Pages.
Does this mean that the current BOINC and PRPNet SGS projects will be suspended? |

Formal announcement coming later today. I have some meetings this afternoon at work (so will be after that) and am still getting used to my new role. :)
Does this mean that the current BOINC and PRPNet SGS projects will be suspended?
What happens next is currently being discussed. I am assuming that we will still finish the currently sieved range.

Amazing! Rogue's little bird told me it is more than just a nice find. It more than doubles the previous WR for that form.
Congratulations to the finder and to Primegrid. |

No. We will complete the sievefile, there are not much left.
I think we have about 800k in Boinc and 200k in PRPNet left.

That is good news. I have 705 to go to my silver badge, or 3.5 days, then I will leave the rest to those who need them.

This is the first prime requiring an official announcement since John's departure, so please bare with us (John did all aspects of the announcements up to now, and we are working out new roles and technical issues--such as various permissions, etc.). An official announcement will be up relatively soon.
Briefly stated, I can say that a Sophie Germain has been found! While late in the process, it certainly brings the SGS project to a successful conclusion.
The remaining work on the SGS BOINC project and the PRPnet port (*note: this server is currently down) will be completed. Future SGS/Twin searching at a different level is under discussion.
Thanks to everyone for their patience. :)

Scott, may I ask with whom the future of SGS is under discussion? I don't see any discussion on the forum. Should we be at least aware of any issues?
Cheers.

Discussions are among admin right now. No real issues to worry about for the public forum just yet. Mostly just the necessary things for continuing the project (e.g., what next N to search to ensure that SGS stays on the top 5000 list, etc.).

Hello there,
I wonder if this is still accurate and if you were talking about a number of WUs still to compute or if the figure is about something else.
I'd never thought I'd worry about that someday, but I would love to get my silver badge (at last !) so I hope I'll be able to do ~1k tasks (WUs) before the stack is exhausted ^^
Good job to all crunchers for this awesome news, btw ! |

In a different post (this one) ~224k units were reported available yesterday (i.e. on the 17th).
That would mean about 500-600k units in 5 days, so only a couple of days worth of work left available.

Of course based on Scott's comment here, it's feasible to think that maybe SG is not going away for good and that we may have this project around for some time even if the wu's are longer. So, the question I have would be how long between running out, making a decision and then doing the necessary sieving and other work (which may already be done) to start SG back up.

For those who don't quite make their SGS goal (no matter when a project stops, it's unavoidable that some people are going to end up just short of their next badge or milestone), I think everyone expects that we will eventually be resuming SGS at a higher range. This is somewhat different than other projects that have ended because we actually do expect to restart in the foreseeable future.
This is not a promise as to when it will restart, nor is it a guarantee that it will be restarted. But that is my expectation. If you do just miss getting the badge, hopefully there will be more SGS work available at a later date.

Thanks for your answer.
Luckily enough I managed to get over my goal.
As someone said earlier in the topic, I'll leave SGS remaining tasks to those needing them, although from what I read >here< it's going to be done before we reach the end of the week.
Going to focus on GFN now :D |

This is good news... ended up with 1991000 SGS credits. so close to the final badge. :-) oh well, I know it'd be tough when i still needed 440k for it when the end of it was first announced.
