Genefer v1.06 is now Deprecated.

We have completed the process of rolling out the latest version of both GeneferCUDA (for GPUs) and Genefx64 (for CPUs) to the BOINC server.

Now that the rollout is complete, if you're running either the CPU or GPU version of Genefer via app_info.xml, it is requested that you either update your copy of Genefer to the latest version, or remove app_info.xml if you don't need it for any other purpose. The new version of Genefer fixes some bugs, handles some external conditions better, and in some situations is faster than the old version so there's no reason to run the old software once the new version is available. IMPORTANT: NEVER change app_info when there are any PrimeGrid WUs in your computer. They will probably all get killed if app_info is changed. Also, do not upgrade from 1.06 to 2.3.0-0 while a GFN WU is in progress. The checkpoint files are different and upgrading while the WU is in progress is guaranteed to kill the WU.

The OLD software is version 1.06.

The NEW software is version 2.3.0-0 (which reverts to the original, pre-BOINC numbering sequence for Genefer), but will be shown as v1.07 or v1.08 on the BOINC web pages. The real version number 2.3.0-0 will show in the stderr.txt log on the result webpage.

As of the time of this writing, all of the new apps are in production:

SHORT WUs:

Linux: GPU and CPU
Mac/Intel: GPU and CPU
Windows: GPU and CPU

Long (World Record) WUs:

Linux: GPU
Mac/Intel: GPU
Windows: GPU

Here are links for downloading the new executable files, if you're using app_info:

Mac/Intel: GeneferCUDA | Genefx64

Note that only GPU apps are available for the long World Record WUs. CPUs can't complete those WUs within the deadlines.

No. The app_info should otherwise be good, unless, of course, you want to run the CPU version of Genefer and that's not already configured in your app_info. You would need to add the information for the new app.

Of course. Plus, it's ok to have some tasks in a WU done by 1.06, some by 1.07, some by CPU, some by GPU, some by Windows, some by Mac, some by Linux...

New tasks being sent out will get the new version of Genefer, but the old version still works.
