I've got thes two llr tasks running on one of my pc

psp_llr_118816970_1
psp_llr_113867174_4

Is there a way to know exactly what number(s?) i'm checking for primality in each of these unit?

After the WUs are done, take a look at http://www.primegrid.com/workunit.php?wuid=242576069 and http://www.primegrid.com/workunit.php?wuid=238438693.

If you need it earlier then you have to look in the file 'llrin.txt' inside the slot-folder.
For a PPS-unit '30*2^400000+1' it would contain:

1000000000:P:1:2:257
30 400000

Thanks for your reply! I find the info i was looking for. It was just a curiosity on where i was putting my 2cents.

Have a nice crunching.

PS. For admins: I personally suggest you to rise (=double?) the time limit for computing psp llr, they're VERY heavy work-units. While i don't care if i spent two months for complete the llr, i also run other project on my cpus, and even running 24-7 i go out of time. Just ask you to be some more patient to let slow machine end their task.

PS. For admins: I personally suggest you to rise (=double?) the time limit for computing psp llr, they're VERY heavy work-units.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't do it, but there's also a good reason not to increase the deadlines. There's another side to this that needs to be considered also.

With longer WUs, there's more opportunity for something to go wrong: a computation error may occur, Boinc could get messed up somehow, the computer could get turned off for a while, the user could abandon PriimeGrid or abandon Boinc completely, etc. There's simply a lot more opportunity for something to happen that will prevent the result from being returned.

Because of this the longer WUs have a LOT of failures. It's not unusual to see long WUs have to get sent out to 10, 20, or 30 or more computers before getting back 2 valid results.

There's a certain failure mode that's of particular concern with long WUs, when the computer simply never responds. This happens when the user removes PrimeGrid from his computer, the computer is too slow or just not running Boinc enough hours every day. The server doesn't know about this until the WU times out when the deadline gets missed. With the long WUs this happens a lot, and with the already long deadlines that means the wingman has to wait, and wait, and wait. Making the deadlines longer would increase the waiting.

If you look at the SoB topic (which is even longer than PSP), you'll see stories about people having to wait 6 months or longer to get their results validated because of this problem.

So while it would allow slower computers to participate, or computers that aren't crunching 24/7, it would also have the effect of slowing down the overall WUs, which would inconvenience far more people than it would help.

There's additional reasons why extending the deadlines cause problems. For example, if the deadlines are longer, it's more difficult or impossible to use the project in one of the annual challenges because the deadline are longer than the challenges.

While i don't care if i spent two months for complete the llr...

While you might not care, extending the deadlines will adversely affect other people, and they will care. The admins need to consider the needs of everyone. I don't envy the decisions they have to make.

For what i've read in the forum it seems that psp work in this way:

psp sieve choose potential prime to be analyzed with llr. This project is now stopped for psp because we have a lot of potential prime to analyze: sieve have reached exponent n=50M, while llr is still checking n=12-13M (we have a very long queue for llr).

queue for llr is actually not so big in terms of space. Eache WU needs only two long integer to be stored (k and n), plus some bytes for addictional info. If we multiply for 50M it is not a big space.

We can divede WU in 4 categories:
1) Full checked, with at least 2 valid results (archived WU)
2) Partially checked (1 valid results + someone checking)
3) Being computated (no valid results)
4) In queue

Actually (100-epsilon)% of WU is in 4). Since it seems that psp will take ages to end, increasing the WU timeline will brings some WU from 4) to 2) and 3). If a WU takes 2 months to be solved, it will take 2 months even if we double the MAX timeline. Fast pc will continue to solve the WU in the same time, before the timeline-end, and slower pc may do their job without stress. Also my task manager says that llr takes very low memory, so llr is very good for old pc.

If you look at the SoB topic (which is even longer than PSP), you'll see stories about people having to wait 6 months or longer to get their results validated because of this problem.

Yes i notice it. I have an old secondary pc, an eleven years-old 2ghz celeron mobile 512MB ram, running 24/7. primeGrid give me a sob_llr (i also checked TRP sieve, why don't give me a small sieve for that old pc?!? Maybe it is a memory issue?).... timeline is 3 March, but i think it will finish on April or May, and also i had to stop other projects (seti, milkyway, etc). However i will not stop computation, i'll keep crunching.

that means the wingman has to wait

That wingman could start a new WU in 4). No cpu is wasted. I think the only disadvantage for this choice is the longer time to validate WU credit. However two more months to get 'credits' is not so big time, compared to maybe 10+ years for completing the psp project.

The admins need to consider the needs of everyone. I don't envy the decisions they have to make.

I understand this and respect the admins of such a great project. Just want to say my opinion and put it in the basket of 'needs of everyone'.
