It appears that one lucky cruncher has received a very nice Christmas gift. Twin primes have been returned to the server and verified. They were found in the Sophie Germain Prime Search and are almost twice the size of the current record. This is an incredible accomplishment!
We are awaiting contact from the appropriate users. Stay tuned for more details. :)

From the official announcement:
The Sophie Germain Prime Search will continue to search the remainder of the sieved search space to hopefully find a Sophie Germain Prime.

Why stop SGS? Presumably there are more twins out there - I vote to keep searching. It's a good project.

We are continuing SGS at n=666666 for now. However, we are reviewing possible paths forward. We naively expected an SG before a twin so this has created some discussion. Nevertheless, we'll definitely take the twin! :)

The official announcement says we are nearly 80% through the current range, other posts say we will begin on a new range when this is exhausted, as well as the immediate end of this range when a SG Prime is found The announcement also says "Additional thanks goes to Lennart Vogel for doing the tedious sieve work.".
In view of these facts should we be getting ready for the next range now by having it sieved, either as a short distributed project or by a selected crew of testers?
Or is this already in hand?

No, it is not in hand. We are currently discussing options and paths forward.
