Hi all,
I'm behind a firewall that allows me to connect to http ports only by using a proxy... OS is Windows (Xp or 7).
Is there a way to specify a proxy for prpnet? | |

yes, i would appreciate that feature too. i work around this problem by opening an ssh connection on port 443 to my home router and configured a local port forwarding for the esp server and port.
the prpclient.ini line looks like this
"server=ESP:100:2:localhost:9000"

Ask your network manager to open up the ports for you? (If you're behind a corporate firewall and you don't have explicit permission to run DC apps on your computers, you're risking getting fired. If you have permission, they might open up the ports for you.)
Short of that, if you go through the firewall on port 80 to a third party server, it can act as a proxy and redirect your calls to the correct port here. Off the top of my head I'm not aware of such a service, but I've never actually looked for one. They probably exist.
One thing you could try, although I'm far from certain it will work, is go to no-ip.com and set up a free dynamic DNS account there. One of the free options they have is a "port 80 redirect" which sounds like it might solve your problem for you. Set up a dynamic DNS entry pointing to PRPnet at the correct port using the Port 80 redirect feature. Maybe it will work.

Do you know which TCP protocol is used by prpclient in order to get/send data to prpnet?
PS:
I'm behind a corporate firewall but I have no resrtictions at all running boinc or whatever I want on the computers I manage. However our local policies are very restrictive about opening ports (and regarding prpnet there are a lot of them and will change frequently).
About http: I can access any server port above 1024 using http, but only using a proxy. For instance I can browse http://prpnet.primegrid.com:12006/ (having specified an http proxy for the browser) but I CANNOT do a telnet host 12006 (because telnet doesn't support proxies...)

I'm really late with this answer, but proxifier will do the trick
http://www.proxifier.com/
The only problem is you'll have to pay for it, if you want a legal version.
This just tunnels all the network traffic trough a proxy, and that can be a socks proxy. You can also select wich programs to allow, and wich not to allow.
I tested this, and it works.
