Discussion about PRPNet >= 3.2.4
From Mark's last post.
"You can now download the official release from here, http://home.roadrunner.com/~mrodenkirch/prpnet_3.2.5.zip
As far as I know this addresses the stability issues from 3.2.5
I have done our multicore archive here: http://uwin.mine.nu/PRPNet/

Has anyone here built and run the 2.4.5 client on Ubuntu? |
|
|
|
If anyone else hasn't, I will be doing this either tomorrow or Thursday evening.
Edit: Are you specifically curious about 9.04 or 9.10? I'm currently running 9.04, but upgrading to 9.10 would be easy enough.

I have an issue with the Windows 2.4.5 client.
When I try to enable 3 or more subprojects the client refuses to start claiming the percentage total is not 100 (though I'm pretty sure that it is). If I set only 2 or 1 subproject it works fine.
for example when the .ini file contains this
server=GCW13:60:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12004
server=PRS:20:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12008
server=FPS:20:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12002 the client responds with
Total percent of servers does not equal 100. Exiting |

That is due to how the FPU rounds. I'll fix it in 2.4.6 by using converting to integer (internally). |

If you have downloaded the linux archive you need to download and replace prpclient.
You can download it on the same place the archives are.
The linux archive is updated now. http://pgllr.mine.nu/PRPNet/

I found and fixed that for 2.4.6. It can lead to an infinite loop under certain conditions, which I have only seen on Linux at this. I'm still working with Lennart on the issues affecting Linux. I hope to get access to a box so I can debug. |

Oops, found that i had copied an older ini file into the 2.4.5 directory, that was my fault, thanks for the reminder.

The server at uwin.mine.nu seems to be down.
Ports 10k and 11k don't get work.
On the positive end: 2.4.5 now ran two nights on a Q6600 with not any crash issue.

I have to report similar good things, rand for 18 hours on ports 10k and 11k and so far it has not stopped.
Only problem seems to be that we either keep running out of work or the server is down, as dh1saj suggested.
Great job on getting the bugs worked out.

There are stats than can tell exactly how many task were completed per each user (no total...yet).
See example here or PRPNet thread for (updated full) list.
Those stats shows Total Score. This makes comparation among users but doesn't tell much about BOINC credit. I've already suggested to show BOINC credit instead of Total Score in those stats...

uwin.mine.nu:10000 seems to be down.
Also uwin.mine.nu:10000/user_stats.html shows blank screen but no HTML-Error.
Same issue with port 11k.
Prpnet on the PG server is up and running (at least for GCW13 and PPSE>450).
Client is 2.4.6 / WIN-XP32.

Hi all,
Does anyone know where I can cat the source code of the latest release of pfgw for unix/linux? (3.2.2?)
The binary i got dumps core (kernel too old) and..., no, I cannot upgrade it...
thanks all.
The latest is 3.2.3 and can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/openpfgw/.
You will need to get gwnum from ftp://mersenne.org/gimps/source2513.zip and build it.
You will also need to get GMP and build it.
PFGW can only be built as a 32-bit binary right now.
I maintain the source tree and distribution. e-mail me if you have further questions.

I was able to build pfgw... (it wasn't easy...) for the following arch:
Linux 2.4.21-47.ELsmp i686 i386
testing now on port 12002 (FPS)
pm me or post here if someone wants the exe or need info about the build |

Is there a set schedule for when manual credit down in PRPnet/the manual sieves will start to be added onto our PSA count? Or is there any place where we can find out when the next time manual credit will be imported? I know that the manual credit isn't added on immediately, and that it is added on as a fraction of our RAC, but it would be nice to know when we can expect to see manual credit to start being added each month. |

Receiving Credit
Manual BOINC cobblestones are earned while participating in both PRPNet and the manual sieves. They are awarded in batches and then averaged out based off your current RAC. This is done so your daily credit more reflects the type of work you're doing. One day spikes do not represent that. Daily distributions will continue to rise each day until most of your credit is distributed...then it will level off as steady work continues to come in.
The sieves
Once COMPLETE ranges are moved from the main reservation post to the Archive post, credit is calculated and applied. This process is done every 2-4 weeks depending on how active the sieves are and how many COMPLETE ranges are piling up. Right now, it's averaging about once a week.
PRPNet
Credit is calculated and applied once every 6-8 weeks. Right now, it's averaging about once every 3-4 weeks. The previous application occurred on 18 Nov.

I have noticed recently that I get the following message from time to time:
Continue test of file 'work_GFN1.in' at line 1.
Testing 2081002^32768+1...
The checkpoint version doesn't match current test. Current test will be restarted
The task is typically just about complete and then starts all over again.
What would be the cause?

A checkpoint file is used so that if genefer is stopped and restarted that it can resume a PRP test from where it had stopped. If you have not stopped the client, this message doesn't make a lot of sense. If you can provide the screen around for context that would help greatly. |

You are getting a maxerr error. This occurs when the FFT encounters a rounding issue. The test is then redone with a version of genefer that is less likely to encounter the error. The second time it tries to perform the test it finds the checkpoint file and gives the message because the checkpoint file cannot be used.
David and I can modify genefer to delete the checkpoint file if maxerr occurs. That would eliminate the message, but doesn't eliminate maxerr. If lots and lots of workunits are failing due to maxerr, I suggest commenting genefx64 and genefer in the prpclient.ini file but not genefer80. |

We are already way past limits Genefx64 for N=32768 (which is ~1,5M so we have past this limit pretty fast) but we are closing limit of Genefer ~2,085M. I believe this will past once we are pretty well deep beyond limit of Genefer so that PRPClient will switch to Genefer80 automagically.
Worth monitoring I guess so we may fine tune this for higher Ns; not easy to balacne performace vs. limits of each genefer version...

It works for commenting genefx64 but doesn't for genefer.
If I leave only genefer80, client crashes (both on Win x86 and x64 OSes)...even when cache is empty and I download new tasks.

How fast is the PS3 client? I might be willing to buy a PS3 just for PrimeGrid if it's fast enough. :)
It's not worth buying a PS3 if you don't already have an old one, since the newer ones cannot run linux at all.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3#Model_comparison
The speed is about 2.5 times slower than on x86.
The synergetic processing units are not used for "phrot", thus not using the full potential of the PS3.
I made a "genefer" build which is using the SPE's through FFTW, but its horribly slow.

Am I the only one who can't access http://pgllr.mine.nu/PRPNet/ ? I'm using v2.4.6, so it's not that important, but I'm curious.
Server is down, Lennart is working on it to bring it back alive.

What does your log say for when the workunit was assigned? Did it expire? Did the server not match the residue? Did the server possibly crash without saving the workunit? |

This implies that the client never got the acknowledgement that the server accepted the workunit when it sent it the first time. |

It's good to hear that. Maybe I need to use a different message such as "Result already received/accepted" instead of an outright rejection. |

Just started PRN today. I am running a dual-core Wintel machine. One thing bothers me that I couldn't find an answer for:
Every time I start the clients up, I get an error saying that 'Genefx64.exe is not a valid Win32 application.' Life continues as normal after that. I had no plans to dabble in GFN anyway, but it's a rather annoying message.
Thanks! |
|
|
|
NOTE: 32 bit Windows clients should comment out the line "geneferexe=genefX64.exe" in the master_prpclient.ini file if participating in the GFN Prime Search.
from here http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=1215
Will stop that error message. |

Genefx64 is a 64bit application, so it can't be run on Win32 (you would have to use genefer/genefer80, if you wanted to do GFN tests). To get rid of that message, open your master_prpclient.ini file, comment out the line geneferexe=genefX64.exe (i.e. insert two slashes in front of it) and run update-prpclient-ini.bat.

Located in this post is:

It was missing in the main PRPNet post. I have added it now. It is also missing in the prpclient.ini file so in the next release, a note will be added to the GFN section. :)
EDIT: Now we give answers in triplicate. :D Thanks for the info pschoefer and endless mike

Oops, thanks. I was aware that this app was 64 bit, which is why I didn't want to be involved. I missed that note and didn't comment any apps out, expecting the app's existence was hard-coded or something. |

Only genefX64.exe is 64 bit. The others are 32 bit so you can still participate in GFN ports if you wish. All you have to do is comment out the first line:
//geneferexe=genefX64.exe
geneferexe=genefer.exe
geneferexe=genefer80.exe

Also note that the upper bound for b with genefer64 is lower than the other versions. |

got "Beta testing PRPNet 3.1.4"-zip for Linux
after unziping and installing I tried to start:
$ ./prpclient
No servers are configured.
reason: in your (master-)prpclient.ini is a space in front of the (test-)server
|// server=27121:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12006
| server=PPSE:100:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12007
|// server=PRS:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12008
"|" is only to demonstrate (code-tag delets leading spaces)
deleting the space, it works:

If I read it correctly GenfX64 and Genefer exceed maxErr so the number goes to Genefer80 that completes the test. Then it looks like pfgw picks up the number and completes the same test again. Why is that?
Based on the timings it took about an extra hour for processing something that doesn't seem necessary.
This happens repeatedly on port 12005 but not on 12003 were tests are completed by GenefX64 and returned as normal. |

I have it configured to run five tasks and then report. Three time now (in 3 or 4 days) I've seen something like ...

I see the problem. The client is not deleting the genefer.log file after it discovers that it failed. I'll work with John/Lennart to get a patch out.
A temporary fix will be to comment the lines for genefx86 and genefer (but not genefer80) in the prpclient.ini file. |

I seem to be seeing an occasional problem with 3.1.4 (on Windows XP) that I didn't see on the previous version I was using.
I have it configured to run five tasks and then report. Three time now (in 3 or 4 days) I've seen something like ...

I'm sorry, but the 3.1.x client will not work with a 2.4.x server. I think that you can swap in the old client and it will report the workunits to the server. If not, let me know and I'll find a work-around for you. |

perhaps i made a mistake or some misunderstanding ...
Sorry, beta clients are only meant to connect to port 12007 which is running the beta server. I'll add a Note to the beta post.

hi John
Don´t worry about this one (it was only ONE) or do you think i test a beta client with thousands of workunits without a sucessfully reply from the server ???
It was only one and if it gone to walhall then say a prayer and forgot em ...
Have a nice weekend!

@rogue: good idea but workunit seems to be deleted by the server meanwhile:

A temporary fix will be to comment the lines for genefx86 and genefer (but not genefer80) in the prpclient.ini file.

I found the problem. It will be fixed in 3.1.6. I can post a 2.4.8 update with this patched if strongly desired. |

Great.
My point is - if 3.x would be soon recommended version, let's put it in 3.1.6, test thoroughly. We would need to upgrade GFN ports to support 3.x clients of course...

Hi,
got some ugly assertion-error today with 3.1.5 on a Gentoo 64-bit system.
PRPNet 3.1.5 PPSE
Starting Proth prime test of 9465*2^700596+1
Using FFT length 64K, a = 11
9465*2^700596+1 is not prime. Proth RES64: 388EFD5FFBA4AC62 Time : 1650.680 sec.
prpclient: tpp.c:63: __pthread_tpp_change_priority: Assertion `new_prio == -1 || (new_prio >= __sched_fifo_min_prio && new_prio <= __sched_fifo_max_prio)' failed.
Aborted
After restarting prpclient, it computed 9465*2^700596+1 again and ended without an error.
Just wanted to post it, maybe it helps the developer :) |

Hi!
I still can't get work from uwin.mine.nu:10000, says nothing was received. I see some reserved work on the pending tests page, but that never arrives. It's the only project uncommented, given 100 percent, requesting 20 workunits. prpnet.primegrid.com:12007 works fine with similar settings, but only one workunit.
Also, in master_prpclient.ini of the current Windows version (v3.1.5), there is a special character at the end of the PPSE11K line and some missing letters in the GFN32768 line. |

This issue has been reported, but I don't know what would be causing it. The client has no code to alter its own priority. I have not been able to produce this error. I need someone to run the client through gdb and provide me a stacktrace so I can understand what would be causing this. |

I'll take a look at the code today evening :)
Running on GDB without triggering the error is not a solution :/ |

An uninitialized mutex attr might cause the problem.
try to change in SharedMemoryItem.cpp
#ifdef WIN32
ih_Mutex = CreateMutex(0, false, itemName);
#else
pthread_mutexattr_init(&ih_PthreadMutexAttr); // <-- THIS
pthread_mutexattr_settype(&ih_PthreadMutexAttr, PTHREAD_MUTEX_ERRORCHECK);
pthread_mutex_init(&ih_PthreadMutex, &ih_PthreadMutexAttr);
#endif

I've seen this bug and fixed it for my 32bit version (Since the prp-zipbal does NOT include any prpclient for 32bit, although it's posted to do so ... !) .
Also I don't see a coherence between priority and threads. But not yet checked the code.

This pthread assertion tpp.c line 63 is well known when you google it:
see: http://sourceware.org/ml/libc-help/2008-05/msg00072.html
It was simply fixed there by initializing the mutexattr properly.

Thank you! I'll apply that for the next release. |

You might want to add some error checking.
The POSIX thread-calls always set errno ... |

I know. I was somewhat lazy when I wrote the code. If problems start cropping up because the code is not handling errors, then I need to know. |

I have release PRPNet 3.2.0. You can get the source and exes here:
http://home.roadrunner.com/~mrodenkirch/prpnet_3.2.0.zip
I'm recommending 3.2.0 to those who participate in the GFN search as it will take care of that issue with the client crashing when only one version of genefer is configured in the ini file.
BTW, if you use phrot on the GFN search, then I suggest you upgrade to phrot 0.72. It has been out for a few weeks, but apparently wasn't mentioned here. phrot/pfgw is only used by the GFN search when genefer/genefer80 encounter a roundoff error.
With this release Lennart should be able to upgrade all servers to 3.2.0. The best change for the participants in the project is a new user_primes.html webpage. |

Attention!!! Hold off on updating as we investigate an anomaly.
LLR 3.8.0 upgrade
LLR 3.8.0 has officially been released. After a brief testing period, we'll update the PRPNet packages with it. If you wish to test ahead of time, you can download updates here:
http://pgllr.mine.nu/software/LLR/
llr380.zip - Windows GUI and command line
llr380linux.zip - Linux dynamic
llr380macintel.zip - MacIntel
llr380slinux.zip - Linux static
llr380src.zip - source
Just replace LLR in your PRPClient/programs folder.
We'll test PRPNet 3.2.0 and hopefully release soon if all goes well. Note: phrot 0.72 has been in PRPNet packages starting with 3.1.4.

PRPNet v3.2.3 ALPHA
Initial feedback on the new release has been positive. Please consider giving this a test and posting your experience with it here. Some of the improvements are:
- prpclient v3.2.3 alpha
- LLR v3.8.0 dev (MacIntel remains at v3.8.0)
- pfgw v3.3.3
Why the update from 3.8.0 to 3.8.0 dev? The development version has improved error recovery.
NOTE: The SGS server stats page is experiencing problems handling the large k. Therefore, it is not displaying the correct information. However, this has no impact on the client.
Application builds are available for the following:
3.2.3alpha archives
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-linux (32 bit - will run on 64 bit)
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-windows (32 bit - will run on 64 bit)
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-macintel
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-macppc
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-ps3
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-ultrasparc32
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-ultrasparc64
We have a growing confidence in this alpha version. :) For more information and to download the new builds, please see the PRPNet thread.
Thank you in advance for your feedback.

GFN ports are now available:
server=GFN32768:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12005
server=GFN65536:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12003
NOTE: 64 bit Windows clients should UNcomment the line "geneferexe=genefX64.exe" in the master_prpclient.ini file if participating in the GFN Prime Search.
The only one that remains offline is:
//server=PPSElow:0:10:uwin.mine.nu:11000
We hope to have this up as soon as possible.

PRPNet v3.2.3 ALPHA - Update
10 ports, 3 days of up time, 36 client downloads, and no major issues so far. I'd say that's EXCELLENT for an alpha release. It's safe to say that we now have a stable client. Kudo's to Mark...the potential of PRPNet is finally starting to shine. :)
There are still a few cosmetic updates (SGS server stats) that need to be done along with some minor server issues. The BETA release will probably be around the corner. However, we suspect this will only affect the server side.
If you still haven't updated, please consider doing that now. Application builds are available for the following:
3.2.3alpha archives
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-linux (32 bit - will run on 64 bit)
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-windows (32 bit - will run on 64 bit)
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-macintel
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-macppc
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-ps3
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-ultrasparc32
- prpclient-3.2.3alpha-ultrasparc64
For more information and to download the new builds, please see the PRPNet thread.
Please post any issues you have with PRPNet in this thread.

today 5.565 tests are done (1.317 on PPSE and 3.027 on ESP)
perhaps this is stressing enough (on this two ports) ?
maybe lets stress other ports (GCW13 ...)

rogue wrote: That is excellent news. How about a PRPNet mini-challenge to really stress it out?
We are working on a Mini Challenge that will accomplish two goals; 1) stress PRPNet for an extended period of time; and 2) help the PPSE project reach 500K sooner.
However, none of the projects currently available at PrimeGrid can stress PRPNet more than our own internal testing. We were able to max out at 15 tests/second for about 2 hours. That equates to 54K tests an hour. The fastest project in PrimeGrid's PSA currently has tests that last at least 6-10 minutes each. In order to reach 15 tests/sec at 6 minutes a test would require 5400 cores connected to PRPNet. :D As you can see, there's plenty of room for growth.
We are looking at a primary stress date of 2 April 2010 18:00 UTC for 24 hours. If all goes well, there will be an extended stress that will last until 9 April 2010 18:00 UTC.
More details to come soon. PRPNet's Fool's Day Mini Challenge 1 April is April Fool's Day. 1 is not a prime number...however, 2 is. ;)
Sysadm@Nbg wrote: maybe lets stress other ports (GCW13 ...)
The GCW13 Mini Challenge has been reinstated. The next occurrence is 12-14 April 2010.

There might be a minor issue with v3.2.3 in case a proth prime is found.
The email I got after I found a prime states that the client did not run a test to search for GFN divisors. But PFGW is not commented out, there is a new file pfgw.log (containing only the prime) and the log says that the test ran much longer than normal:
[2010-04-03 05:46:22 GMT] PFDMC: 5513*2^495797+1 is not prime. Residue E5900708502970AB
[2010-04-03 05:52:04 GMT] PFDMC: 5515*2^495796+1 is not prime. Residue 332813AF5A9E0C8A
[2010-04-03 06:43:30 GMT] PFDMC: 5527*2^495796+1 is Prime!
So I guess that the client actually did the GFN test, but the prime is no GFN divisor and that negative result was not sent to the server.

Also, all our v3.2.3alpha packages contain the latest updates. For more details, please see PRPNet.

I have a problem with running prpclient-3.2.3alpha-linux on this box:
http://www.primegrid.com/show_host_detail.php?hostid=139521
It is running OS: Ubuntu 9.10 w/ gnome
It's a 32 bit Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 1700MHz (pair)
1 Gig of RAM
When I start prp it flashes xterm then gone.
This is my only 32bit box running now.
So I have moved back to prpclient-3.2.1beta-linux for PRPNet's Fool's Day mini Challenge.
If you need more info or want me to try something, just ask
btw / PS3
seems to run phrot only Is this right?
llrexe=
phrotexe=./phrot
pfgwexe=
geneferexe=

I guess you haven't called the install script before, so maybe the directories which are called by the start script are missing ?
If the problem still exist, you can just copy all the binaries and the prpclient.ini by hand into a seperate directory and start prpclient there, and leave that window alone.
Repeat for each additional cpu core (another seperate directory is required for each instance.)

That is correct, the PS3 is a powerpc platform, like MacPPC, and LLR+PFGW is using x86-assembly code (gwnum-lib) which has not been ported to powerpc yet.
Genefer exists for powerpc but is horribly slow, a PS3 version of genefer using the 6 SPU processors also exists but is a little bit unstable, therefore it is not included in the prpclient bundle.

Years. Basically the entire range from 125K-450K needs to be completed. A few blocks have been completed in there but it's still a lot of work.

10876 is my ID but I made the mistake of not putting it on the ClientID so now it shows that I might not get credit for 11 or 13 so now that I've changed it I think so it will show me instead of just 10876 and ClientID
User names are converted to User ID's before credit (cobblestones) is applied. So, either way, User ID 10876 will get the credit. Client ID is not used to apply credit (cobblestones).

Hi, I've been recently using PRPNet to run PPSE. I found two primes, but I didn't get an email for either of them. I've checked that my settings are correct in the config file, and I've checked that they didn't get caught in a spam filter. Any tips?
Also, (sorry, newbie question coming) is there a "standard" database to check if these primes have been found before? And does PRPNet handle reporting the primes I found to this database, if there is one? |

Hi, I've been recently using PRPNet to run PPSE. I found two primes, but I didn't get an email for either of them. ...
Hej Jay
Congratulations to your founds!
According to my stats page you found primes on port "PPSE11K" aka "http://uwin.mine.nu:11000/". Unfortunately the primes found on this port are to small to make it into the TOP5000-Prime-Pages.
So there isnt any need to inform you via eMail :(
But dont give up! Perhaps your next prime found will be large enough, to make it into top 5000 ...

Ok got a problem here then, I just noticed as I've been keeping track of my progress on GFN32768 port 12005 and as you already know my ID number issue was 10876. Well I know that I had a lot more tests then what is showing under what should be JohnMJohnson so I looked closely and this is what it shows:
NAME-------------SCORE---TESTS COMPLETED---------PRIMES FOUND
JohnMJohnson--80130----207 ---------------------------0 0
10876------------ 82991---183 ---------------------------0 0
So if you can delete the 10876 and add the 82991 to my JohnMJohnson score along with the tests completed and then make sure that anymore that come threw go to JohnMJohnson and not the ID number of mine that would be awesome. I dunno how this happened other then my original post that you said it didn't work that way but somehow it is. I would appreciate any assistance possible because I know I should have over 300 tests completed so that should = those two together. Sorry again for the inconvenience. Bugs/issues do arise in PRPNET and thats understandable thank god we found this one before it really caused more then 1 person a problem :) Thanks John / Lennart / Rytis / Everyone else that could or can help.

Bugs/issues do arise in PRPNET and thats understandable thank god we found this one before it really caused more then 1 person a problem :)
This is not a bug.
As long as hosts return work with two different UserID's, their scores will remain different. "JohnMJohnson" and "10876" are treated as two different UserID's. The PRPNet DB can be manually edited to move the tests and score. However, as long as UserID "10876" returns work, all new work will go back to that UserID. There's no "fix" to this other than to use the same UserID for all your hosts.
The scores you see are PRPNet scores...they are not BOINC credit (cobblestones). However, the PRPNet scores are used to determine BOINC credit. During this process, the two different UserID's will get converted into your PrimeGrid UserID 10876 and cobblestones will be applied to that single account.

Ok I fixed it on my end, dunno how I messed up switched the two but somehow on my laptop dual core it was switched. So they can be put together to JohnMJohnson when Rytis or Lennart get a chance? That would be awesome if that could be done. Thanks John

It seems that port 10000 (PPSEhigh) is empty. Does this mean the work is done, or that it needs to be refilled? |

I tend to get better results from people that don't flip on my every second comment to release my portrayal. they get. So I would try Rytis or Lennart my friend. Oh also Try Tim he can help too :) if not PM me and let me know how it goes kind sir and I'll see what I can do for you :)

Thanks! I wasn't quite sure how the process worked. |

All is well.
PRPNET scores are just bragging rights and the important thing
is your score on PRIME GRID...which should be correct once the manual labor is done because it will get combined into your ONE id 10876.
I have gone weeks running up PRPNET points not realizing i used different
names......but they all got combined into my one unique prime grid account

Say Lennart! Glad I could catch you while I had a question on my mind lately. As of these PRPNET Options, Not including the rare test only server ones and the such of coarse:
Basic Stats:
Detailed daily user stats courtesy of Sysadm@Nbg
Today's Prime Finders courtesy of Sysadm@Nbg
port 9000: ESP Server : User : Pending Tests
port 10000: PPSE n>500K Server : User : Pending Tests
port 11000: PPSE n<500K Server :User : Pending Tests
port 12000: SGS Server : User : Pending Tests
port 12002: FPS Server : User : Pending Tests
port 12003: GFN65536 Server : User : Pending Tests
port 12004: GCW13 Server : User : Pending Tests
port 12005: GFN32768 Server : User : Pending Tests
port 12006: 27121 Server : User : Pending Tests
port 12008: PRS Server : User : Pending Tests
Retired Ports
port 9000: PPSE n>500K User
port 12007: PPSE n>500K User
So my question is because I've been doing the port 12005 a lot lately and now I have 1 of my computers doing two different projects, the 12005 and 50% and 12008 at 50% and I noticed as I should that the Primordial would take a lot longer which in fact they do :) but then who exactly figures out how much to award and give for cobblestones then at the end of the day sir? Thats the mystery thats been bugging me so much since I Really want my first Gold badge to be of PSA since I love alpha and beta testing so much and enjoy this website and community like they were a part of my family. A huge, lol but nice and wonderfully brilliant people here :)

Maybe you can change the linux prpnet start scripts a litle bit, it would be better if the name prpclient is showed, and not the name ./startx.sh
It can be done this way:
for x in prpclient-{1..2}; do pushd $x; xterm -T $x -e ./startx.sh & popd; done
I didn't know that when I wrote the first version of the linux shell files.
____________
|
|
|
|
that only works is you use xterm's of course.. if you are only console based it probably will not work. |

The only thing I added is -T $x , xterm is already used in the current version as well.
Command line users should just go to the prpclient-1 and prpclient-2 and ... directory and run there
./startx.sh &
But that way the output will be mixed.

Any. This is a client only setting and only affects LLR. I don't think it is particularly useful as the OS should choose the CPU that is being used the least. |

Seeking testers
PRPNet v3.3.0alpha is now available for testing. There are a lot of changes so please proceed with caution. Port 11000 is the designated test server. Only connect to this server for testing.
server=PPSE11K:0:10:prime2u.com:11000
Be sure to uncomment this port and set share to 100. Additionally, LLR has been updated to v3.8.1.
Please report back any issues that you encounter. Thank you! :)
NOTE: v3.2.5alpha should still be used for all other servers.

Version 3.3.0: May 2010 - New Release
all: Code infrastructure changes WRT sockets. The Socket class was
cumbersome. I changed it so that Socket is an ancestor class and
that specific server/client/mail functionality would be in descendent
classes.
Buffer no more than 4000 bytes at a time before sending data across
the socket. This should improve performance on large data transfers.
Use a static buffer for receiving data from a socket.
Use a static buffer when logging messages.
prpclient; Fixed an issue when testing for twin primes.
When the startoption is to report and abort, shut down the client
immediately after communicating with the server.
prpserver: Added maxclients= to prpserver.ini to limit how many concurrent
clients the server will handle.
Removed -u option for upgrading from version 2.x.
Removed behavior to insert into UserPrimes at startup since
nobody (that I know of) is using a version of 3.x that is pre-3.2.
Renamed ClientThread.cpp to HelperThread.cpp.
Changed threading architecture to address memory allocation issue.
Do not set LastUpdateTime when a test is sent to a client.
When sorting by LastUpdateTime, include DecimalLength as an
additional criteria in case multiple rows have the same LastUpdateTime.
Moved logic from ClientHandler.cpp to HelperThread.cpp.
Added CompletedThru to group stats.
Added CountInProgress to group stats.
Added summary line to group stats.
Added a new index to Candidate to improve performance.
Fixed an issue with BIGINT datatypes. With this change a number
of columns have been changed from varchar(20) to bigint.

PRPNet port 12001: 121 Search
Several people testing the new PRPNet v3.3.0 have noticed a new port in the master_prpclient.ini server list. Port 12001 has been added and is testing k=121 +1/-1 starting at n=3.7M.
Port 12006 which is currently 27121 will continue up to n=2.5M. Once that's complete, it will switch to 27 +1/-1 only and will start at 3.7M. 2.5M to 2.9M is already complete. 2.9M to 3.7M is currently being completed externally by puzzle_peter.
Best of luck!
