I note that the GCW Sieve deadlines are only 2 days (48 hrs). Why so short?

In the early days of a new sieve effort, there are lots of factors, and a shorter deadline means you can issue a new sieve file (often smaller and faster) earlier. Also means you recycle things faster then the client gets tweaked. Bother of the previous points applied to the new GCW Sieve. I guess we're beyond that point now, and I believe the "usual" sieve WU deadline would now be appropriate.

Yes, I agree that they should be longer.
My old 1.42GHz G4 Mac Mini that I keep in my desk drawer crunching away isn't able to complete these on time, which is a shame. |

CW sieve WU's have been extended to 7 days. However, this is only for new WU's. Currently we must crunch through 120K in buffer which are all at 2 day deadlines.
NOTE: I've just been told that 120K WU's are going to take 12 weeks at our current rate. Sorry for the disappointing news. Looks like the solution is still a long ways off. :(

Now that someone posted a 32 bit windows option it might go faster, or so we can hope right :)

I am unaware of this 32 bit Windows option you mention. Additionally, it is highly unlikely that we'll see any speed improvement since 32 bit Linux has been available from the beginning of the project. As always, 32 bit machines are better suited for LLR while 64 bit machines are better suited for sieving.
What would speed up the search is a 64 bit Windows application which is mentioned in this SOS post. Several people have worked on this and have yet to find success.

I'm sorry if your unaware of it, but others have posted along with myself that some 32 bit windows machines have been able to crunch these now, and what I meant and said about going faster was that if more people are able to now do this because they didn't have 64 bit computers then adding a few hundred people will speed up doing this project in the long run :) You should talk to my good buddy Lennart about the 32 bit computers being able to crunch these because I think he was the one I first PM'd about it when I was so happy and surprised that one of my computers crunched one. If not then check around on the forums and find the post that others posted before I about being able to as well. If you can't then just PM me I'll help ya out :)

This simply is not possible as there's no 32 bit Windows application for gcwsieve. Please review the Applications page.

John,
I think that John ("Novex") is mixing up the GCW Sieve (Linux and Mac only) with the PPS Sieve which has had reported 32-bit windows success despite it being listed officially as 64-bit only.
...Now, if we can only figure out how to eliminate the "John" confusion in this post... :)

AH crap, yeah thats it exactly. I posted it late at night so meh guess I had the two forum posts mixed up, but yeah the one PPS that says 64 bit only does allow only certain 32 bit windows computers to do WU's. Thanks Scott for figuring it out my friend :)
