I see badges have made their way into the account details and user details in the message boards. Well done - a welcome addition.
It seems the colour coding is:
10k = bronze
200k = silver
500k - gold
It also appears, when hovering over the gold badge that a disction is made between 500k and 1M. Also, the bronze distinguishes between 10k and 20k.
Great innovation ;-)
What about manual credits?

LLR: 10k/100k/500k; sieve/ap26: 20k/200k/1m.
We'll see about manual credits, and we'll also have badge explanation page "Soon™" :)

Thanks Rytis. That's really great.
It certainly beats the system at WCG. They went the route of adding more and more colours and the message boards now look like a Christmas tree on steroids. |

Is there anywhere on this site where you can find out the credit you have per individual PrimeGrid project?. If there is I can't find it :-(
I am aware the primestats site can provide this info, albeit only updated once per day, but with the new badges it might be helpful if the stat was added to the existing per project list.

Couldn't subrojects with like stats be summed up in a table on the account page?
It is a bit confusing now and one has to scroll a lot.
Like:
AP26
Completed tests
Credit
found of length 20
found of length 21
...
LLR 321 TPS Woodall ...
Completed tests
Credit
Primes found
% with prime
Sieve 321 psp ...
Completed test
Credit
Factors found
avg factors/wu
Or is this impossible with the boinc serversoftware? |

Is there a way of having stats of Proth Prime Search (Sieve) in the account page (it seems missing to me...).
Another question: does somebody know anything about the guy who is maintening the www.primestats.net site? it used to produce nice primegrid signatures, but it seems no more updated since a long time...

Thanks for the pointer.
I see you've already added the badges. You may want to check the numbers you use for the AP26 badge though, it should be the same as for sieve (20,000 / 200,000 / 1,000,000); You've incorrectly awarded me the bronze badge for just over 10,000 (but thanks anyway).
Nice page though, now bookmarked.

Not a big deal, but for the TPS badge here at PG both TPS_333333 and the old TPS_195000 are counted, so Free-DC might show the wrong color in some cases. ;)

hmm,
that's going to be a small PITA... as I'm holding a row for each subproject and just displaying badges in the php code rather than saving them on the backend.
Perhaps I'll change it to calculate on the backend instead and just save the image name into a field or create a separate combined row and maintain and use that.

It's where work happens to prepare projects prior to their inclusion in BOINC. This includes:
manual sieving (to either reduce the size of the sieve file before the sieving transfers to BOINC, or to finish the sieving completely)
prime finding (previously using llrnet, now with prpnet, to either progress the search sufficiently far so that the runtime is not so short as the hammer the BOINC servers to death e.g. 321 LLR started this way, or projects that don't have BOINC support yet, eg stuff that uses pfgw)
The work done there gains what is called Manual Credit, which is what shows up as Project Staging or PSA.
See the Project Staging Area for more details.

Personally I like the badges just the way they are, Rytis, John, Lennart, and the other Mods did a great job coming up with the badge idea and it makes it look nice, like stated above how one forum looked too Christmas'y, where as here they look great, not too glamorous but enough to give us as in the community something to work for instead of just giving us cobblestones. Now we can get Primes, Factors and show our friends how were doing with badges. I say well done on the work they did and a big salute for the time and effort that went into the project! Well done you guys :)

I agree with John on keeping them simple. The "olympic" style badges (bronze, silver, and gold) are easily recognized, and I have to say that now that there are badges, I have a burning desire to get them all! I would imagine that they would have a similar effect on some others too, bringing some new attention to all of the subprojects. Too bad i missed out on the TPS one...

So I checked, unfortunately, I won't be able to get the PPS Sieve badge because of no 64 bit computers out of the 5 I have, or the CW Sieve Since mine are all 32 bit windows. What I don't understand is I used to be able to do the CW Sieve a long time ago thats why I had some points in it but not enough for the badge. so 11 Badges out of 13 I guess is all I can look forward to for now. SGS is the only one I haven't done yet and its next after one of the computers finishes the Primorial Sieve I love helping with. Anyway just wanted to share that in case someone else had an idea I missed.

Still trying to finish off my WCG badges with three that are "only" Emerald after working on WCG only for August through the end of October ... and with another project in the wings (were running Beta tasks for it in October, DDDT2) not sure how long I will be running to catch up ...
But, I did put all the old projects back in, including PG, so will be working slowly on my collection here too ...
Almost as "annoying" is that in the last month or two there have been half a dozen new projects opening ...

Yes, I would also like to know why AP26 is considered a sieve (if it is at all, or if it is just lumped with the Sieves in terms of badges because someone picked that). |
|
|
|
I'd guess because AP26 also benefits from 64-bit the same way that sieves do, and as such can gain credit like gangbusters in comparison to LLRing.
Edit: I say this because for what it does, AP26 definitely is not a sieve in this context.

Yes, I would also like to know why AP26 is considered a sieve (if it is at all, or if it is just lumped with the Sieves in terms of badges because someone picked that).
Quoting from Jarosław Wróblewski How to search for 26 primes in arithmetic progression?
In principle it is obvious how to search for prime arithmetic progressions:
Step 1. Perform some kind of sieving to rule out progressions with a term divisible by a small prime.
Step 2. Check primality of terms of any sequence which passes Step 1.
AP26 mostly resembles a sieve. Yes, it does primality testing but on very small primes. The largest to date is only 18 digits long. While we classify AP26 as a hybrid, it falls into the sieving category because of program processing power. dlouwe is correct in that "AP26 also benefits from 64-bit the same way that sieves do". And by extension, it falls into the badge requirements for sieving.

Hmmm, new question. Looking at my account I seem to have AP 26 over 11K CS but no AP 26 badge. Is this just me or is there a form I have to fill out? :)
To be honest I was surprised to see a CUDA application for PG showing up ... not that I am complaining, I would that there were more GPU applications.
Which gets to question 2, ATI versions?
I just had a CUDA card die and now I can go and spend $400 on a slower card or buy 2 ATI cards for about $300 and each ATI card works at least twice as fast as the CUDA card. |

AP26 badges work the same way as sieve badges do: they require twice as much CS as LLR badges. So you need 20000 for the first AP26 badge.
As for ATI card support, I'll leave this question to our volunteer developers :)

Ah, when I read the first notes the hint was 10K for the first. So, bronze is not a consistent start point...
Did not get that.
The reason I ask, aside from having 3 ATI cards is that one HD5870 replaced two GTX295 cards for less money than one 295 ... and less power. Secondly, early adopters of ATI have gotten far more subscribers than they can handle ... judging by the need to double to quadruple the work per task to keep us from sucking the servers down.
As I understand Gispel, and I may be wrong on this, but the way I read what he has written, is that once you have something coded for CUDA it is not that hard to port it over and make an ATI version.
Now that I am within striking distance of having all Sapphire badges on WCG I will be making more of an effort here ... but ... my best comes from my GPUs and I for one am hungry for GPU projects ... sadly, I find the cost case for ATI cards compelling and with two projects with ATI applications (three if you count GPU Grid's beta), well ... now I have 3 ATI cards and three CUDA ... but it is hard to justify buying a pair of $495 cards (~$1K) when I can get one for $400 that will do as much ... |

Happy Christmas to all of you!
An improvement I want to suggest is to show the bages on the stats of the individual subprojects of the account page, and maybe also to mention the amount of credits needed to reach the next badge level. So you wouln't have to scroll to see which subproject you need to crunch for. |

7th bronze!
Congratulations ...
I just added 3 to get 6 myself ...
Not sure when I will add others ...
Which adds a new suggestion to the formatting. At the bottom of the page where you list all the subprojects and the stats for each could we also list the specific badge? No need to add a new line, it could go in the line with credit total (assuming that is possible) ...
Color me an an idiot if you like, but I tried the other day to figure out which sub-projects I had a badge for and which ones I did not and some how I kept coming up one project off in accounting ... anyway, it seems some of us need more help than others ... |

Paul, Here's your signature:
Any project name with AP26 or Sieve in it require 20K for bronze, 200K for Silver, and 1 M for Gold.
Any with the LLR description require 10K bronze, 100K Silver and 500K for Gold.
Seems to jive with the badges under your username.
Hope this helps

I'd like to get the detailed stats from the http://www.primegrid.com/home.php page without having to log in. The same kind of stats as in my signature image.

Well, it's been a productive month. I've received 11 bronze badges. I have reached 400k points on PrimeGride, I reached 400k on Rosetta, and now I've reached 200k on Seti; so all together I've reached 1 million boinc points!
Now on to that 12th badge: PSA!
Thanks for setting up the badges; they really do help set personal goals on the project.

Congrats to all that have worked so hard to get them badges, I agree with the posts above that ask for TPS to return, please bring it back with primes that will go in the top 5000 please purdy please with sugar on top :)

I wouldnt start a new TPS as SGS does search for SG primes and! twins.
The tests is sieved for both forms.
I'd say combine SGS an TPS badges. IF bronze, silver, gold in SGS then credit a bronze, silver, gold badge in TPS too. |

PSP/SoB (Sieve) have one old Badge ?
Yes. It's always been PSP/SoB combined sieving. Now it's official with the collaboration with SoB. I'm sure Bok can update the Free-DC stats but I don't think there's much that can be done with the badge. Space is limited.

Yes! I finally got the SoB Bronze badge. And now .... All I need is the PSA to have a full set - Excluding the Twin Prime which I managed to get two jobs through just after starting Prime Grid before they went away!

Thought I'd join in on badge collecting and just got my 10th which is PSP LLR. Cullen LLR is as good as done once some more pendings turn into real credit. Woodall LLR isn't far behind, and SoB LLR... how big are the units??? My first one is about 3 days away from finishing, and a 2nd about 6 days. Hope that will be enough to go bronze. I have done SoB in the distant past, and can still remember when units were measured in hours... To get the full set I guess I should do some PPS Sieve some time. |

Rytis/John: Is it possible to switch back to normal font, not bold? Its better to read it.
It's not bold :) It's just that the badges were hand-drawn using Paint.NET on Windows, and now they are autogenerated using PHP GD which renders fonts slightly differently. The change was made because it's very annoying to manually edit badges when a new color/project is added, and because different Paint.NET versions have slightly different font rendering, so all badges have to be recreated when a new project is added.
Text is written using:
imagettftext($image, 7.5, 0, $left, 7, $color_text, 'calibri.ttf', $project['text1']);
If you have suggestions for the code - please post.

Not sure if this is any better ?
Crudely drawn and I only half guessed at color. Using a 5point trebuc.ttf font
And again where I do the 'PPS' with 7point but keep 'sieve' at 5point
As above but with trebucit.ttf
Personally I don't think there is much difference.

How about larger picture (18x18 pixels) with 2px border? 6point font may fit there...

I just got my SoB silver badge. It's been a few weeks since I finished my end of the work to get it, but I was waiting on my wingmen. This WU finally came through today, putting me over the 100k threshold.
Now I'm waiting on Cullen LLR to hit silver. I've done all the work, but am waiting on wingmen. I'll probably try to get 321 LLR up to silver next, starting with the Earth Day challenge... |

Hello everyone.
Sorry for the stupid question, but how long do you have to wait for your badge?
Few days ago I managed to collect 20k points in AP26 project and I still didn't receive my badge.
EDIT:Sorry, my bad, I got over 20k points in PrimeGrid, not in AP26 ;-) |

When I look you seem to have 20K in AP26 now ... so you got the first ... :)
Me, I am trying hard to get even the first full set ... though I lost out on getting something super in AP26 (sorry guys, the pay is still too low)... |

10 Bronze Badges completed now, another three in progress:
TRP Sieve - will finish on my Core2 Duo in a few weeks
TRP LLR - currently crunching away on my Core Duo
PSA - Dual G4 PowerMac crunching away on PPSE
The last 2 are trickier:
PSP LLR & SoB LLR - very long WUs, too long for my slow Core Duo. However, throwing the faster Core2 Duo at it is a bit of a waste of it's 64 bit architecture...
