Problems and Help :
Newbie: Deadline warning

Hi. Newbie here. I am running BOINC with BoincTasks and TThrottle on a Lenovo Slim 7 ProX 14IAH7 - Type 82V1. BoincTasks says this about one of the tasks:
PrimeGrid 4.02 Do You Feel Lucky? (OCLcudaGFNEXTREME) genefer_extreme_112422471_1 02d,04:12:37 (00:12:12) 0.39 37.832 614d,22:32:45 15d,12:50:38 Running High P., Deadline warning 66.7 °C 99 Slim-7i - Win 0.112C + 1NV
BOINC Manager has the same figures.
From what I can decipher it's been running this task for a couple of days, will take almost 615 days to complete and the deadline is in 15½ days.
My question here is do I need to take any action? Should I suspend other tasks? Should I abort this task?
Thanks,

Only an Admin can give you a definitive answer but on the DYFL settings page it says this about the deadlines "Deadline: 21 days (up to 84 days)". PrimeGrid is very good about extending the deadlines as long as your pc is actively working on the tasks but doubling that to 165 days, which is only a guess at this point, only an Admin can say.

PrimeGrid 4.02 Do You Feel Lucky? (OCLcudaGFNEXTREME) genefer_extreme_112422471_1 02d,04:12:37 (00:12:12) 0.39 37.832 614d,22:32:45 15d,12:50:38 Running High P., Deadline warning 66.7 °C 99 Slim-7i - Win 0.112C + 1NV
If I'm reading this correctly, the task's progress is at 37.832%. PrimeGrid's applications report their progress quite accurately, so a much better estimate for the remaining time would be ~86 hours (actually, PrimeGrid tells BOINC to estimate the remaining time this way, but BOINC sometimes messes this up, e.g., after a reboot).
So, as long as your computer is not slowing down considerably, it should have no problem finishing this task in time.

I don't know what kinds of an error 'Computation error (1,)' is. I guess the task will be reassigned?

Yes it will be sent to someone else.
Your pc's are hidden so it's hard to help you with it.

How are you using that computer? Those are the longest tasks PrimeGrid has to offer, and should only be run on a computer operating 24/7. Otherwise they will take forever to complete.
Your computer received the task on May 21st. Over two days later, it reported to the server (we call it trickling) that it was 1% done. At that pace it would have taken over 200 days to complete.
2023-05-23 18:11 first trickle, 1%, old exp 2023-06-12 13:31
While running, the task paused and resumed MANY time. This is a portion of the log:

Over four days after it reached 1%, it failed without ever getting to 2%.
At the end, there was some sort of problem communicating with the GPU, but the real problem here is that the computer presumably wasn't running enough to finish the task in a reasonable time.
You might want to consider starting with the smaller tasks, such as GFN-15, see how that goes, and work your way up from there.

Thank you.
In my PrimeGrid preferences "Should PrimeGrid show your computers on its web site?" is 'yes'. But if I try to view my computers there aren't any. I'm being patient. :-)

Thanks.
I'm using this computer as my main home computer. Usually set to compute BOINC when i n use.
In Tthrottlw CPU and GPU are set to 65°C. I am paranoid about overheating.
In PrimeGrid preferences I set "Send work from any subproject if selected projects have no work?" to 'no' and selected GFN-15..
Thanks again

You're not signed in under a Science Unit account are you?
If so use the same account you are logged into the forums with, not SU.

Thanks for the reply.
Sorry, I'm not so bright. Signed into what under Science United? I might be as Science United is the account manager on this machine.
So where do I log into with the forum credentials?
Thank you for your patience.

Hello again. Thank you everyone for your patience.
I was logged in under Science United. So I stopped using the account manager and dropped PrimeGrid. (Probably a brute force thing to do.) I then signed up again on PrimeGrid and things are looking better. My computer has shown up. Hopefully others can see it now. And my wishes for GFN-15 tasks are observed (although I did get a cudaPPSsieve).
Thanks again, everyone.

You have to be very careful when checking the boxes you want to crunch and make sure you uncheck the boxes for things you do not want to crunch, it can be tricky at first. And also make sure this line at the very bottom of the settings is unchecked in your case "Send work from any subproject if selected projects have no work".
Yes your pc's are now visible and you are now getting credits, and any Prime Numbers, under your own account and not the Science United account.

Glad it's fixed. Yes you will have got PPS sv as a default. Adding machines can be 'exciting' because they will grab whatever subprojects are set under the default venue. One has to tame the beast.
If there's anybody else you know or are aware of who is having a similar problem, get them to do what you did.

Hello again.
I was still getting tasks that had hundreds of days to process so I restricted myself to PPS(GPU only) and GFN-15
I tried PrimeGrid on WSL2 Ubuntu 22.04.2 but I couldn't get it to see the GPU and the CPU got too hot (>90°C).

Ignore estimation time, it is often way out the first time you get one. After a few % of progress the ETA should settle.
We have Discord for support if you require any further help & would find that easier.

The gpu won't work in a virtual machine under Windows, it's a Windows thing.
But you can run the gpu in Boinc under Windows and then run the cpu in Boinc under Linux.

Thank you for your reply.
I was referring to:
https://docs.nvidia.com/cuda/wsl-user-guide/index.html
But was unsuccessful.
How do I set CPU & GPU preferences on a per machine basis?
Thanks again.

With the different venues, ie default or blank, home, school, work and then PrimeGrid adds a whole solar system of names beyond that so you can put each pc into it's own venue

Thanks for this pointer, Mikey.
That worked quite well.
Unfortunately I had to stop BOINC on the WSL machines. The CPU was getting too hot and the computers were starting to make funny noises from the speakers. Decreasing the resources allotted to BOINC didn't help. I'll try again if I can find more suitable hardware.

LOL welcome to the World of crunching with multiple pc's!!! That's why I went from a couple of pc's to now 16 running!!! That and it gives me more choices on where to put my resources. I haven't seen one in awhile but I used to pick them up on the side of the road on trash day, some even had harddrives in them, which I wiped without looking at them, and were good enough to be better than the nothing I had.
